Transformers: The Game is an action-adventure video game based on the 2007 film Transformers, developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Activision. The game closely follows the story of the film, depicting the Autobots and Decepticons' arrival on Earth following a war between them that has ravaged their home planet of Cybertron. While trying to conceal their existence from humanity, both factions search for a powerful artifact called the AllSpark, which could be used to restore Cybertron to its former glory, or to enslave Earth's population. The game features a split-campaign format, with players choosing to join either the Autobots or the Decepticons, and completing various missions for whichever faction they chose. A sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, was released in June 2009, based on the film of the same name.Theobald, Phil (June 26, 2007). "GameSpy: Transformers: The Game". GameSpy. On the plus side, it does appear that Traveller's Tales has made the effort to support 1080i and 1080p TVs, and there's evidence that the game runs at 960x1080 - scaled horizontally to fill the screen (this does offer minimal detail increases over straight 720p upscaling, but looks terrible). However, as is becoming increasingly the norm with PS3 titles, the software scaling methods employed only serve to make the game look like a shimmering mess of jagginess. Once more, the Xbox 360's GPU manages to pull off a far better approximation of 1080p thanks to its hardware scaler and superior blur-free base image. Giacobbi, Kevin "BIFF" (July 15, 2007). Transformers: The Game for the PSP is very different from its console counterparts, whereas the console versions allow the player to choose which side's storyline they wish to play, the PSP version has only one storyline which alternates between the two different sides. [4] Also, the player is able to play a total of 23 characters, including characters from previous generations. Overall the PSP version of the game has the most playable characters out of all versions, and also includes an alternate story, unrelated to that of other versions. The game focuses on the eponymous Transformers, a race of extraterrestrials from the planet Cybertron who resemble robots, and can change their form into various vehicles. The Transformers consist of two factions: the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, that arrived on Earth following a civil war that left their home planet a deserted and lifeless place. Forced to disguise themselves by taking the form of human vehicles, the Transformers soon reenact their past conflict upon learning that the AllSpark, a powerful artifact and the source of all Transformer life, is on Earth. While the Decepticons seek its power to subjugate the Earth, the Autobots attempt to stop them and make peace with mankind. The game features two separate campaigns, one from the Autobots' perspective and the other from the Decepticons', which cross over on several occasions. A particularly savage review from Kristan, but entirely warranted - Transformers: The Game is a bafflingly inept offering from the usually steady hands of UK developer Traveller's Tales. Despite featuring occasionally impressive levels of rampant destruction along with decently detailed 'warrior robots in disguise', the basic problem is that the game design itself is fundamentally lazy, predictable and very, very poor.Certain Affinity's Transformers Console Game Gets a New Name? - Transformers News - TFW2005". 9 August 2021. Just like Transformers: The Game, at least there is support for 1080i and 1080p displays, but once again the PS3 game is using a really rough upscaling method (what looks like a blown-up 720x1080 - the fattest pixels ever seen on PS3!) and I'd be more inclined to leave the XMB at 720p and let the screen handle the resizing. The worst case scenario is that it'll look like as bad as the PS3's 1080p output any way, and at least the CPU isn't being burdened with having to resize the image when it's clearly having issues keeping up with the 360 version in terms of frame rate any way. By contrast, the 360's 1080p output here is - once again - handled by the internal scaler, and as it's dealing with much more detail-rich, refined, anti-aliased image, it looks noticeably better.
