The ability to match previous X models for long exposures in a compact body is a powerful draw for many LE photographers and again I’m delighted to report they’ll find the X70 very similar in practice. My almost new, highly praised (double priced) Canon G5 X mk II was already listed for sale on the net (at half the price I had paid 2 months before) because of dull, phonelike picture quality. The electronic viewfinder will be the controversy. The X70 doesn’t have one, and I personally don’t think it’s a requirement for the X80, but some people will have a strong opinion that, in 2022 (or 2023), it is a requirement. Perhaps Fujifilm should consider a pop-up viewfinder (right underneath where the X70 says “X70”) similar to the Sony RX100 III, or (my preferred option) a shoe-mount viewfinder that’s an optional accessory. I didn’t notice any relevant distortion in my real-world samples and chromatic aberration is well-controlled as long as you don’t shoot wide open into the sun. Distortion doesn’t seem to be relevant for real-world shootingMathieu and I are in agreement with much of the photographic internet when they say that the image quality and colours produced by Fujifilm are quite beautiful and somehow less digital-looking than those produced by other brands. This is especially true of the Film Simulation Modes (Fujifilm’s take on colour profiles) which use the names of certain popular films produced by Fujifilm such as Velvia and Provia. The X70 comes with the latest colour film simulation mode, Classic Chrome, which is my personal favourite for documentary photography because of its subtle palette. X70, 1/60, f/2.8, ISO 200 – Classic Chrome FSM X70, 1/200, f/4.6, ISO 400 – Astia FSM X70, 1/850, f/5.6, ISO 200 – Astia FSM

I set my aperture to f8 and my shutter speed to either 1/500 or if there is not much light then I reduce this to 1/250 or less if required. The aperture is f8 to give me a large depth of field. The relatively fast shutter speed is so as to avoid my photos being spoilt by camera shake or motion blur. Buying a pre-owned camera or lens is a great option for amateurs and beginners. Enter a world of photography with top models that are in great condition. Professional photographers often update their equipment to ensure they’re using the latest technology. This means we get lots of camera trade-ins with models which still have years left in them. Our second-hand range is ideal if you’re looking to buy a mirrorless camera or lens on a budget. About Used Fujifilm X Cameras I was shooting the Fuji around the house, grabbing test shots and killing time during one of the many sunless and bitter cold days so cherished by us New Englanders. Into the room stomps my daughter. She’s almost two years old, playful as a puppy, and loves antagonizing her dad. The kid wants to get her mitts on anything and everything, cameras included, and her slimy paws are especially drawn to review-ready mirrorless cameras that absolutely cannot be damaged or scratched if her father is to avoid the ire of B&H’s loaner gear team. The downside was that to use it, you had to deep dive into a menu setting to let the camera know you had the Wide Conversion Lens attached. You can program the slowest shutter speed, and you have three different Auto ISO presets available in the ISO menu. My impression is that it is certainly one of the easier cameras to approach. Thanks to its conspicuously placed Auto switch, you can easily put the controls into the camera’s capable hands if you find your confidence faltering. It will be especially straightforward for former or current users of film cameras to use because of the many external dials to control shutter speed, aperture and exposure compensation, and smartphone users will be comfortable with its touch functionalities. The Auto switch This fun compact camera has a seriously small profile, making it a discreet offering for street photographers.

The first time I had it I paid just under €400, and sold on for about €350. The second time around - in 2022/3 I had to pay €500 to buy, and sold for €600+ including the WCL-X70, wide converter which unlike the x100 ones cost me €30! It's pretty bad though. Crazy prices for a 2016 camera. Viewed at a reduced size, the teleconverter option seems ideal for situations when you want a tighter view, such as a portrait, but Fuji can’t perform miracles and as you’d expect, there’s no additional detail beyond the original 28mm version. Below are 100% crops from the middle of the 28mm and scaled 35mm and 50mm versions, where it’s clear to see the degree of real-life detail is no different between them. As such, you can achieve a similar effect yourself by simply shooting in the native 28mm and cropping later if desired. Menu system is abysmal, and no "my menu" means you can't even compensate for it with a curated menu. Much like the additional converter lenses on offer for the Fujifilm X100 series, the X70 was also given this treatment. Fujifilm developed a Wide Conversion Lens (WCL-X70). Fuji’s workhorse 16.3 megapixel X Trans CMOS II sensor combines with a brand new, fixed 18.5mm F/2.8 Fujinon lens (28mm equivalent in full-frame 35mm format). This Super EBC (Fuji’s coating tech) glass uses seven elements in five groups with two aspherical elements to form a lens that’s clinically sharp, completely resistant to optical aberrations, and free of distortion in all but the most outrageous shooting styles.

The screen is useless in bright sunlight. For a easy to carry camera that cries out for summer usage, criminal. The 16MP resolution of the X70 is more than enough for a variety of applications, from landscapes to portraits to street. With the Fujifilm X70, this includes Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome, Pro Negative Hi, Pro Negative Low and a range of Monochrome variables. x-trans II film Sims do not look like the film Sims from other Fuji sensors, a bit too strong in the reds DSLRs cover an entire spectrum, as well as their lenses, so comparing to one doesn't mean that much, but just for fun let's shoot it against an inexpensive Canon T6 DSLR with its kit 18-55mm IS II lens.

Making photos with this camera is the easy part. Making a good one, however, is a tad more difficult. But at least I know I can’t blame the camera. The X70 tends to offer fewer or coarser JPG options for picture adjustments like saturation and sharpening. For looking up, pull out the LCD and use it to rest the X70 at any upward angle you like. It works great! The only limitation concerns the bokeh rendering, which can become unpleasant at shutter speeds faster than 1/1000s at f/2.8. This is due to the leaf shutter failing to cover the large aperture fast enough. The X100T has a built-in ND filter (3 Ev equivalent) that counteracts the issue by reducing the shutter speed but unfortunately, the X70 has no such benefit.
