The first step is simple: Find some sand dunes. It might sound hard if you don’t live in the desert, but there are more dunes around the world than you might think. You probably have a good place in mind already. If not, you might be able to find amazing dunes somewhere that you travel. Switch off your camera. If your camera was turned on when you dropped it, immediately switch it off. The worst damage to the camera can come from water mixing with active electronics in the camera. Shutting off power reduces the chances you’ll fry them.

If there are still stubborn sand particles on the lens, you can dampen the microfiber cloth slightly with lens cleaning solution or distilled water. However, it's important to use these liquids sparingly and avoid getting them inside the lens. Photographers can get excited about the number of megapixels a camera has. A megapixel is 1 million pixels. A pixel is a small square, like a piece of tile, that when fit together with other pixels creates a photograph. The density of these pixels determines the resolution of your picture. The denser the megapixels, the higher the resolution — making your photos sharp and crisp and the colors vibrant. With a higher resolution, you can blow the photograph up to hang on the wall or make it a screen saver without the image becoming pixelated-when scant pixels are stretched too far. The Tough Cameras reviewed range from 12MP to 20MP. Here’s the catch. These comparatively high-resolution images are said to be particularly useful in areas such as neurology, ophthalmology, ENT, cardiology, spinal injuries, urology, gynecology and arthroscopy. The low-power consumption of the camera means that less heat is generated, which allows for longer procedure duration and better patient comfort. Let’s start with what tough cameras are not. Your cellphone is not a tough camera. As cell phones have evolved so too has the quality of images produced with them. Many new cell phones like the Google Pixel 6, Samsung Galaxy S22 or iPhone 13 are weather and waterproof—to a point. If you shoot in the rain, drop your phone into a creek or take a dunking while rafting, you’re covered. It's important to note that if the sand particles are stubborn or if you notice any scratches on the lens, it's best to seek professional assistance from a camera repair service. They have the expertise and tools to safely clean and restore the lens to its optimal condition. In 2015 I left my newspaper career to hike the 500-mile-long Colorado Trail; a film about that hike— The Long Haul—won a Heartland Emmy Award . All of the still images in The Long Haul were taken with a Tough Camera, an Olympus TG-4. My latest project is hiking and photographing the 3,100-mile-long Continental Divide Trail and to date, most of that has been photographed with a TG-5. The new Nest Cam (indoor, wired) offers three types of intelligent alerts right out of the box, no subscription required: people, animals and vehicles. Using a lens cleaning solution to remove stubborn sand is an effective method to restore the clarity of your camera lens. However, it is important to exercise caution and follow the proper steps to avoid damaging the lens further.

If you’re taking pictures in the wind, it’s very easy for sand to damage your equipment. So, take the proper steps to keep your gear safe. It’s worth the effort, too — done right, sand dune photography isspectacular.

Next, use a soft-bristled brush or a lens cleaning brush to gently brush away any remaining sand particles. Be sure to use light strokes and avoid applying too much pressure. This will help dislodge the sand without scratching the lens. A Nest Aware subscription will give you 30 days of event video history. A Nest Aware Plus subscription will give you 60 days of event video history plus 10 days of 24/7 continuous video history for both cameras. Nest Cam (indoor, wired) works with the Google Home app. The Google Home app accommodates event-based and 24/7 continuous video history and gives you visibility into all of your compatible connected home devices in one place (whether it's a Google Nest device or another brand). They can be mounted on a horizontal surface like a table, shelf or mantle, and on walls or under a cabinet. Besides Tseng, Colburn, Whitehead, Majumdar and Heide, the study’s authors include Luocheng Huang, a Ph.D. student at the University of Washington; and Seung-Hwan Baek, a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton.

The good news — if it’s not windy, you’ll usually be fine. Unless you actually drop your camera, you probably won’t get too much sand in it. (And even if there is a little, you can just wipe it off without worrying too much.) It turned out that the lenses and optics were really good and worked excellently,’ he said. ‘Then we thought, ok let’s go to more complicated optics.’ Megapixels alone don’t determine the image quality — a camera’s optics and the size of its processing sensor do that. A camera can have fewer megapixels but a larger sensor and a better lens and produce higher resolution images than a 20MP camera with a smaller sensor and optically inferior glass. Newsletter Archive Quarterly publication of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Princeton EngineeringFirst, cover the camera whenever possible. In the desert, you won’t need to worry about moisture, so you’re better off choosing a camera cover that can deflect some of the heat. Space blanket material that’s designed to shield from heat can help avoid issues with the sensitive electronics in your camera body overheating. With the TG -6’s wifi capability and the Olympus Image Share app on your smartphone you can swiftly transfer images from the camera to your smartphone. You can also use Image Share to shoot your camera remotely (for group shots that you want to be in). But, if these aren’t options for you, all is not lost. Unless you’re in the middle of a sandstorm, you can probably get away with using a zoom lens and homemade weatherproofing. Take a plastic bag, cut a hole for the front of your lens, and seal any sensitive areas off with rubber bands. Even as you zoom the lens in and out, you shouldn’t get any grains of sand falling onto the exposed part of the lens barrel. Again, this won’t work in the most extreme conditions, but it’s far better than nothing.
