The Duo Crisp turned out a near mirror image of the fork-tender pork shoulders I've made before in the same amount of time. With this model, the lid can be swapped in or out with a standard Instant Pot lid, turning the multi-cooker into an air fryer with a simple lid switch. The control panel on the front has all the “wet” cooking functions in a column on one side, and the “dry” cooking functions on the other. It has a remote steam release switch to keep your hands safe and steam is diffused through a special valve for our quietest steam release yet, reducing noise in your kitchen. Instant has designed this latest version to be as unobtrusive as possible, though there’s no getting away from the size and weight of the multi cooker.

One user was able to get the valve to drop by banging on the lid, another dropped her IP from about an inch above the counter and the valve dropped – not something we recommend. While you won't have to screw on (or find storage for) a bulky conical air fryer lid attachment as you do for the original Duo Crisp, you will have to slide in the pressure cooker lid when you want to pressure or slow cook. Having rinsed the rice, we added it to the pot along with the water and locked the lid; we set the pressure release to pulse and the cook time to 20 minutes. We didn’t find the beeps too loud or offensive, but the sound can be switched off if you’re sensitive to this kind of noise.If you're planning on cooking mostly those foods versus battered foods, you may not have the same issues I did. This Duo Crisp is simple to use, with a large LCD display that includes status messages to guide you through cooking programs. With over 11 safety features including overheat protection, an easy to use lock/unlock switch for securing the lid, and 3 options for pressure release controlled using the display panel, cooking is stress free and simple thanks to the step-by-step cooking instructions on a large LCD display, with ‘OK to open lid’ notification. Pre-set programmes include: pressure cooker, air fryer, slow cooker, steamer, saute pan, food warmer, roast , mini oven, grill, dehydrate, yogurt maker, sous vide and bread proofing. It's chunky then, so those who don’t plan to let it sit on the countertop will need to find a fair bit of storage space for it – but at least there’s no second lid to accommodate.

Unlike previous models, which required you to switch to a separate lid for air frying, there’s now a removable cooking cover inside the lid that detaches to expose the oven-style heating element, allowing you to use oven- and hob-based modes with ease. Its fast, versatile, and convenient, you can simply remove the pressure cooking cover to reveal the heating element to go from pressure cooking to air frying instantly. I’m curious if it’s possible to do a controlled quick release where you release the pressure in spurts. For this review, we air-fried french fries, Brussels sprouts, and chicken wings to see how well the Instant Pot Duo Crisp Ultimate performed while also evaluating how easy it was to use and clean. We put it to the test in the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab to find out if the Duo Crisp is worth the hype.

If we are unable to resolve the problem, you may be asked to send your appliance to the Service Department for quality inspection. Both batches emerged from 12 minutes of cooking with about the same amount of caramelization and browning.
