About this deal

You should be proud at being able to organise your thoughts so well and present such a coherent package. However, most headphone amplifiers perform better with higher impedance headphones, and that is why beyerdynamic suggests them. On the other hand, the Beats are more versatile since they have an integrated mic, onboard controls, and an ANC feature that blocks out an impressive amount of noise. I suspect Beyerdynamic uses a higher thread count on the velour for the 880/990 pads than the 770 ones.

Soundstage - IMO the stgae is not overly large for an open can - and is probably deeper than it is wide. Bass- The bass on the dt880's is very tight its not boomy what so ever, but he bass is well defined and very pleasing. size=small] I find the treble on the DT880/600Ohm to be slightly smoother than the 250Ohm and 32Ohm models out there.

Headphone reviews are usually audiophile-centric (whatever that means), but I don't care much about magic dust. Bass-Lovely tone, great solidity and impact on the Double Bass notes, and the placement is slightly behind the Trumpet and adjacent to the piano, again the imaging is excellent. But overall its a smooth presentation that is very relaxing and with the desired energy and sparkle for my personal enjoyment albeit the 9khz peak and is quite resolving with a great sense of detail.

I think a headphone for listening pleasure probably needs to accentuate bass a little, especially for the younger folks. The grille and forks are very solid aluminium, with the latter having a subtle brush effect which adds a nice feeling of quality. The semi-open enclosures of the DT-880 mean they don't rely heavily on an air-tight seal to create their Bass. The individual strings that compose the unified sound are easily identified singularly, yet enjoyed just as easily as a whole. Also it would probably be best to power it from the mains in this case, which is a rare option for a USB powered DAC/amp. But since the beyerdynamic dt 880 are 250 ohms you will need a headphone amplifier to power them to their full potential.

The Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO and the Beyerdynamic DT 880 PRO are both very good headphones for critical listening, but they have different sound profiles.

The Valhalla powered all headphones without a hitch, I am just nitpicking here to rank them in hopes this will be informative. The Beyers were most comfortable to me, in fact, they were some of the most comfortable headphones i've ever tried on. There are sounds every where, front and center, left of center, slightly behind center, to the rear and right of center, and to the left rear of center.

Their frame doesn't feel as sturdy as the DT990 PRO, but the ear cups feel better built and have metal enclosures compared to the plastic one of the DT990. The rear of the pads look identical, but I noticed the velour material goes farther back on the 880 pad before the seam. The earpads are a silver-grey velour and the headband padding is a black pleather, both of which are high quality. You might not be interested on putting down so much money for a pair of headphones, but the difference is obvious. My difficulty in loving the DT 880 is the high-end, which tends to be unnaturally piercing and sharp. The higher impedance versions are suggested not because they perform any differently than the lower impedance versions, they are suggested because it's more likely that your other equipment will perform better with higher-impedance loads. But, in the long run, I decided that the sound was a bit too cold and analytical, and maybe slightly too bright and lacking a little bit of body for me to enjoy anymore.
