Description

It is very honest and very accessible, some of those really unpleasant things made much more palatable by the author’s style and I remember really liking her. An exploration of race, class, love and the complexities of growing up as a black British teen, from bestselling author Candice Brathwaite. Cuts Both Ways is a riveting mixture of contemporary, romance and mystery that completely captures your mind.

I’m getting on fairly well, yes, thank you, though whether I’ll finish it by the end of the month is slightly doubtful! The design and promotion for the book might help it to reach a bigger audience and not just preach to the choir, too, I think. it’s defiantly a serious conversation, and i feel that everyone should read this book, it was entertaining but very moving and insightful!

She is a contributing editor at Grazia and a presenter on Lorraine, and her writing has appeared in the Guardian, Harper’s Bazaar, Stylist, Metro and Huffington Post. Leafing through the piles of prenatal paraphernalia, she found herself wondering: “Where are all the black mothers?

What is meant to be a fresh start for Cynthia leads to a 'fish out of water scenario in which she starts at a posh new school as one of the only black students.

First off, the execution when it comes to the reality of being a black teen in UK, from south London gets a 5 star alone. A sharp and funny YA love story that explores themes of race, class and the complexities of growing up as a black British teen, from Sunday Times best-selling author Candice Brathwaite, author of I Am Not Your Baby Mother. She has worked with brands such as Pampers, Ella's Kitchen and Specsavers, and has appeared on countless panels to discuss modern motherhood. Well, as the pastor explained, "Even if God doesn’t make good on his promise in this lifetime, he will make good on it in heaven.

This book handles serious and pertinent themes like knife crime and grief in Brathwaite's signature, compelling style . Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Brathwaite also does not hold back in the searing depiction of classism and racism that defines much of the narrative.

She opens up about the desire of Black families to place their children in private schools to combat the disadvantage they experience in state schools (I had no idea of the private school thing; there’s always something to learn) and worries about her son growing up in London, hence that move, and talks openly about mental health issues and how Black communities are affected by them but also push back on talk and treatment. And if you didn’t get the new house, or your child didn’t make it to university, or you still had cancer? She cleverly structures it around the stages of pregnancy, birth and childhood, weaving in her personal memoir and sometimes horrific experiences among more general stats and stories.
