I've always been so intrigued about mermaids and here they are, explored beautifully in one beautiful book. There was no way I wouldn’t love him and his easy nature as well as his love for his crew and ship immediately made him my favourite. Our Sirens Are Different: Sirens are depicted as beautiful women with the lower body of a fish who use their songs to hypnotize and kill sailors. From actually laughing out loud, to swooning, to crying, to everything I felt for these two, and all I want is more.

Instead, we get Lira, a cruel siren princess who takes pleasure in ripping the hearts of princes right out of their drowning bodies. After hearing that the Princes’ Bane killed Prince Cristian, Elian’s friend and the Adekarosin prince, Elian goes to the Golden Goose, an outlaw’s pub, to find out any information that he can about her. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen and or remain a human forever.I’ve heard things: tales of lost hearts and harpooned women stapled to the ocean bed as punishment for their treachery. Unlike sirens, mermaids have stretched blue husks and limbs in place of hair, with a jawlessness that lets their mouths stretch to the size of small boats and swallow sharks whole.

They have the capacity to be deadly, like all monsters, but where sirens seduce and kill, mermaids remain fascinated by humans. I absolutely cannot wait to see what Alexandra Christo does next, and this debut novel of hers is one of the best debut novels I’ve ever read. Those two were both confident in their own skin and it was really refreshing to have two characters that know exactly what they want.

The people who choose to unconditionally love you, support you, protect you, those people are your family. Being my native language, I have to point out that, even though the use of individual words was correct (and I felt really proud because that doesn't happen quite frequently), the sentences had some issues, and to a person speaking Greek they sounded funny. Choosing a siren for a protagonist is a bold choice for a fantasy, but this oceanic romance makes the most of its imaginative conceit. And just in case you wondered: Yes, I rediscovered my love for “Ariel – The Little Mermaid” once again. The last few chapters were perfection, and I feel so honored that I was able to even experience them.

By the way our main characters were introduced, I was expecting some straight-up nastiness and bravado. Lira tries to explain, but Elian immediately attacks her, angry at her deception and at himself for falling for it. When Kahlia was young, her mother was killed leaving her under the abusive guardianship of Lira’s mother, The Sea Queen. Lira debates telling Elian the truth about being a siren, but she decides against it and instead asks him for a kiss, which he grants. If you are looking for something more than just an average read, that you will want to engage with, then this is also something you will enjoy. Cuando rescata a una joven a punto de morir ahogada, sabe que es mas de lo que aparenta, pero ella promete ayudarlo a encontrar la clave para exterminar a las sirenas para siempre.
