I think it didn't help that I was reading it on Kindle - it would have been good to be able to flip back and re-read certain parts. And as rehearsals progress and funds mount up, then two themes of this story, the play and A Cure for Poppy, become increasingly entwined, resulting in a deadly outcome. The transcription tool used on the audio files sometimes gets it wrong, and helpfully blanks out any swear words, so “must have” becomes “mustard”, Bournemouth becomes “bore moth”, and events become “pretty f[EXPLICIT] lairy”.I’d never heard of this one either, until someone told me about it…that’s how hearing about stuff works, isn’t it? Oh, The Maze is certainly much drier — there’s a clear focus on the relationships and interactions between the characters, and a very clear importance on that element of things being key.
