The first book, Rebel Rose, will follow Belle as she faces growing class tensions in Revolutionary France. The villain was easy to spot the moment he appeared, and it didn't help that Belle was constantly alluding to him. I wasn't sure going in what the connection of the series would be, but there were some reveals in here that provided insight into that. Exhausted mothers and wailing babies, emaciated men, orphaned children, all collected on the seams and in the alleys of the city.
