I bought it to understand why people go on about this album as I never spent anytime listening to King Crimson.

The pressing I had before this was a near mint US George Piros cut that sounds amazing in it’s own right. And the 50th Anniversary edition offers a revelatory alternate version, building from a recently discovered backing track recorded in June 1969 during the aborted Clarke session at Morgan Studios. And since the vaults have been mostly cleared over the years, the package’s real value boils down to a handful of unreleased gems. Wilson expressed satisfaction with his 2009 remix, but stated that his 50th anniversary mixes are a significant improvement, being more faithful to the original 1969 mix and benefitting from his 10 years of ensuing experience.

It is extremely difficult to describe the kind of perfection that is built into the sound that was built into the collected notes,chords, and vocals combined in this disc.The alternate take is close to the finished track but differs a bit in its arrangement and is a welcome addition to this edition. The final version of that song, which Kanye West famously sampled for his 2010 single “ Power,” would be enough to cement King Crimson’s legend. I would maybe have liked slightly more shimmer on drums, but with upgrades Ill be sure to check if this area isnt improved, because Im quite sure it will.
