Wide thermal amplitude with big differences (approximately 22° C between the minimum during the cold mornings and nights, and the maximum during sunny days).

Don David Malbec - The Wine Centre Don David Malbec - The Wine Centre

The wine is concentrated, with dark blackberries and morello cherries overlain with vanilla and coconut.Zuccardi wines elicit a “wow” – each time I crack open a bottle of Aluvional Altamira I get just that. T. is produced from grapes in Uco Valley, a famed region within Mendoza, with Mendoza being the most renowned Malbec territory in Argentina. Altamira is one of the highest and southernmost areas of the Uco Valley, almost a desert, where vineyards require irrigation from – usually – the melting snows from the Andes mountains to the west. Here we have something a little different; a Bordeaux-blend malbec equivalent from world-renowned winemaker Michel Rolland. The head winemaker is Alejando Pepa who makes good use of their extensive, modern facilities to craft their exemplary wines.

Täyteläinen punaviini ja juustolautanen – täydelliset Täyteläinen punaviini ja juustolautanen – täydelliset

Cold mornings and nights, and long hot days result in wines that are highly concentrated in colour, aromas and flavours with a unique fruity character. At that time it was known as La Rosa Winery, but following its acquisition by Grupo Peñaflor, one of Argentina's largest wine producers, in recent years they've been known as Bodega El Esteco. The result is a wien with rich, soft and fruity aromas that lead onto a palate of plum jam, raisins, tobacco, chocolate, vanilla and toasted notes. For most young malbecs I’d advise letting them sit in a decanter for about 30 minutes to an hour before drinking to allow them to open up. While the colour showcases a deep purple hue, you can expect a nose of almonds, Christmas cake and dark cherries. If you provide your Aeroplan member number we also will use LCBO purchases made using this number to customize the communications and offers you receive.

Don David Reserve Malbec 2019 The Corkscrew Wine Merchants

We’re talking about a big wine here, so you want to give it lots of breathing room to open up in the glass. Deep ruby/purple, with aromas of smoke, dark fruit, chocolate and floral and spicy hints; extra dry with medium-plus body and medium tannins; spicy dark fruit flavours persist on a medium-length finish, with smoky and chocolate notes speaking to generous oak ageing. An initial explosion of strawberry syrup and baked plum pie hits your tongue with layers upon layers of blackcurrant, oak and tobacco coming into play on the finish. With greater exposure, and big drops in day and night temperatures, the grapes develop great flavour whilst retaining freshness.

The estate El Enemino [‘The Enemy’] is based in the high-altitude wine region of Valle de Uco, Mendoza with rocky, sandy, free-draining soils, not very easy to work. Deep ruby-black in colour with excellent concentration of flavours, the wine has dark cherry and blackberry fruit and gently smoky oak with balsamic and peppermint nuances adding character.

El Esteco Don David Reserve Malbec - Vivino 2020 El Esteco Don David Reserve Malbec - Vivino

Argentinian Malbec, rich and filled with berries, plum jam, the fine, perfumed acidity of redcurrants, with the elegant scent of violets on the nose, plus the sweetness of vanilla and a smear of dark chocolate. Bright acidity and silky tannin give a nicely balanced wine in a restrained style with integrated fruit, wood and structure and good length. Supported by brisk acidity and dense tannins, the wine is a beautiful expression of Malbec: textured, layered and complex. From the El Esteco winery, located in the Calchaqui Valley of Chile, The Don David Reserve Malbec 2017 shows the talent and expertise it takes to create such delightful wine. The entire blend is then aged in French oak barrels for a 12-month period to evoke a rich smokiness that works alongside the tannin structure. With vineyards starting at 5,500 feet above sea level and rising to over 6,600 feet, Michel Torino's wines are unique expressions of the region.
