Of course, one character is noticeably absent: dear Pugsley who, imho, stole the show in THE WATCHER'S TEST. Norma travels to the In-between to rescue Barney but also finds Jennifer Swan, a Pauline Phoenix impersonator who disappeared mysteriously. My favorite of all the bonus comics are the ones by Ceri Giddens, featuring the cutest Pugsley I was never prepared for and dearly wish I could hug. If you liked Pauline (who voiced what was undoubtedly the best line in the video: “I need to own this booty, or this booty is going to own me”) then you’ll be delighted to know that she is in the background of several panels of the first issue and has a small scene well into the book.

Norma believes Barborah Winslow ( Karen Maruyama), a stunt double who had a grudge with Pauline, is responsible. Barney accidentally discovers that Dead End is a legitimately haunted house, home to a gateway to a supernatural realm through which ghosts, demons, and other entities occasionally enter and (sometimes unwittingly) wreak havoc.

Norma uses Pugsley's powers to transform herself into a perfect replica of Pauline, and Pauline chooses her to be her new vessel.

The first few issues or chapters are Monster of the Week affairs that introduce and establish characters, future conflict, and in-universe rules. Although sometimes a bit on the nose with mental illness - Barney’s self harm scars in issue two felt a bit abrupt - these elements are incorporated throughout. Deadendia is a comic about the employees of a theme park, particularly two people who work in a haunted house. It deals with overarching questions about good and evil, as well as personal issues for our characters, with so many laughs along the way.I wanted the cast to reflect my friend group and it was sort of a no brainer that this character was trans.
