About this deal

Josh THINKS he’s found a brother, by way of his dad. He met this maybe-brother on an online forum for DC kids, or donor-conceived kids. Eli is this character, and he goes to meet him in Manchester on the train. He’s excited and absolutely SET to do this, as the “now” denotes at first but as the time gets closer he gets nervous and worries if he’s made the right decision. Has he? Is Eli his true brother? You’ll need to read to find out for yourself! Also, the date they choose to meet is his Mum’s party so will he be late or prepared for that? Tommy pointed with his right hand as he circled his body, following his hand came Tommy's foot in a straight line. Josh's journey was what really stood out to me though. As someone who has gone through fertility treatment myself, it always irritates me how people will toss suggestions around of donation etc as if it's really straightforward and simple. I can definitely think of more than a few adults who could do with reading this book, as just a basic introduction to some of the complexities that can arise. Unfortunately our biology is something that we're seemingly drawn to need to know about, and I could totally understand Josh's desperation. When he arrived at his house, Wilbur was crying into his twin's arms, sobbing about how she should have never gone. Tommy was only 8 at the time and didn't have a strong concept of death. So when he had asked them what happened, no one spoke. Instead, Tommy saw the anger and resentment in Wilbur's eyes. Techno couldn't even look at Tommy. The next things that were said made Tommy hate himself. Wilbur starts screaming about how it was his fault Kristan was dead and how if he hadn't begged her to go to his dance composition she would still be alive. Tommy remembers running to his room in tears as Wilbur was still screaming at him about how it was his fault. Tommy liked this duet, it was both silly and goofy but held enough maturity for it to have an underlying meaning of having this false confidence in things you do. It connects with him and Turbo because no matter what they have been through they've always had each other to hold on to.

Tommy looked up to his team he really did. Without them he doesn't know where he would be, they all have helped him so much. Not only them but their friends and families as well. Without them, he wouldn't have the support group he does. In my mind I plan out the message I’m going to send him: I’ve seen the article, I’m a part of the forum, I was donor-conceived too, I wondered if we could share experiences, I’ve got some questions…The two danced like there was no tomorrow. Moving around each other as if it was second nature which at this point it basically was. They were brothers related or not, and it really showed how they danced with each other. The writing style is super easy to read and uses correct pronouns for characters throughout the book, I love this in writing as I think it really opens a discussion about the importance of not assuming a characters pronouns. As the dance moved on the judges got to visually see the mask Tubbo has started to slowly slip away and Tommy's false humor morphed into his real humor. They were smiling and laughing with each other and it just worked so perfectly with each other. Through the ups and downs it all comes together to leave you with a full-heart and a lovely rounded ending (my biggest peeve is a poorly finished or rushed ending). The themes that run throughout the book are belonging, growing up, LGBTQIA+ issues, family troubles, acceptance and the importance of friendship among siblings and friends.

Tommy smiled once again before he took his trophy and sat down with the rest of his team. Next up were the duos and Trios. Both Tommy and Tubbos duet as well as Aimsey and Niki's duet. Hopefully, they both would place in the top ten. Tommy stood facing Tubbo when the music started, Tubbo kept a straight face as they danced while Tommy put on silly faces and did goofy expressions. It fits their personalities. When stressed, Tubbo would shut down and put on a mask of blankness while Tommy used jokes and laughter to cover how much hurt he was feeling.Wow, what a ground breaking middle grade novel. I really enjoyed Sarah Hagger-Holt’s “Nothing Ever Happens Here” and I was excited to read this. Walking hand in hand toward the announcer Tommy smiled so brightly at the crowd, nothing could ruin this moment. Tommy smiled so brightly as he jumped up and hugged Tubbo. Of course, they got first. They were the ultimate duo. No one could deny that. Using as much body as he could, Tommy performed. He could hear the crowd roaring his name as he kept going. This is what it was all for. Her name’s Carli,” I object, “not ‘the new girl’.” I’ve been hoping to bump into Carli all morning, yet now that she’s in front of me, I feel to shy to go over.”
