About this deal

It’s a difficult question to answer, as the cost varies wildly. Factors such as the temperature, type of dehumidifier ( desiccant or refrigerant) and energy-saving features all affect the running costs. Manufacturers also confuse the issue by adding the phrase “energy efficient” to every product description – whether it’s deserved or not. I was less impressed by the unit's sleep function, as it meant I couldn’t adjust the fan speed, and although this dehumidifier is noisy in all modes (more on that below), it is even more so on a high fan setting. Meaco Arete is my best little cellar-dwelling friend. No idea if he’s actually helping anything, but he collects loads of water, and it makes me feel better about the damp situation, so I absolutely love him"(Recommended by Mumsnetter cimena) I also found it very noisy. Even when the fan was set to low I could hear it over the TV, and I definitely couldn't have slept with it running. I also didn’t find it a great help with drying clothes, whilst it did take some of the moisture out of the garments, it didn’t leave them airing-cupboard dry like the best dehumidifiers I've tested.

When operating the Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier, you can either leave it running continuously until you switch it off, or make the most of the built-in Automatic Humidity Sensor. This allows you to set your desired room humidity between 30%-80%, and once this level is reached the unit will turn off to conserve energy.

7. Best mid-budget dehumidifier: Challenge 12 Litre Dehumidifier

We’ve got a Meaco Arête One dehumidifier. It’s quiet enough to run overnight in the bedroom." (Tried and tested by Mumsnet user Catmummyof2 ) Our verdict Similarly to the Meaco, the Pro Breeze 20L Premium doesn't have any Wi-Fi connectivity, and can't be operated via App control. This is a bit of a shame for an otherwise premium product, especially as the Pro Breeze 30L Premium High Capacity Dehumidifier with Smart App Control does have these features. Adding this in to the 20L model would have been a great addition. A desiccant dehumidifier differs in that it uses an absorbent material or chemical dessicant to extract moisture from the air. This means they can operate efficiently in lower temperatures, down to just 1°C, and are useful for garages, basements, conservatorys, or unheated rooms in the house over winter. However, they're usually more expensive both upfront and in terms of running costs than a compressor dehumidifier, so unless you're looking to remove damp at cold temperatures you're generally best off with a compressor model. It's also important not to confuse the extraction rate with a dehumidifiers water tank capacity. As both are generally measured in litres or millilitres this can sometimes cause confusion.

Pro Breeze 20L Dehumidifier (PB-08-UK) review - Which?

Type: Moisture Absorber | Extraction amount: 12L | Tank capacity: 2.5L | Dimensions: H19.7 x W15.2 x D14.7cm | Weight: 0.8kg | Power: None required | Cost per hour: Free | Noise level: 0dB | Max room size: 20m² | Laundry mode: No | Warranty: N/A What we like However, its all-white casing means it’ll effortlessly fit in with most decors, and its honeycomb-style front grill adds a little style. It measures H44 x W30 x D22cm, so it’s also compact enough not to take up too much space. From older, draughty houses to unheated, low-traffic spaces like a garage or basement, experts recommend a desiccant dehumidifier, like the EcoAir DD1 Simple, as the most effective type in colder temperatures (far more than its compressor counterparts). What’s more, Mumsnetters love this model for its compact, slimline design with a portable carry handle and its ability to quietly extract up to seven litres of water daily (so you won’t be disturbed whilst sleeping or working from home!). If you have a lot of laundry you need to dry indoors over the winter months, then we think thePro Breeze 20L Premium Dehumidifier with Special Laundry Modeis the best dehumidifier for drying clothes fast. The Pro Breeze 20L has a massive extraction rate at up to 20L/day and a MUCH bigger water tank than the smaller models such as the Pro Breeze 12L. We really like the large water tank because it means less time spent emptying it. We recommend this product for large spaces with big damp problems. Smaller spaces with more moderate damp issues are better suited to the 12L model. However, if you are looking for maximum moisture removal, then this is your best bet from Pro Breeze. FeaturesCosts as little as 12p/hour to run: Using an energy-efficient compressor, it removes up to 20 litres of water daily with low power consumption. It's also worth considering noise levels and energy consumption before you invest in a dehumidifier.
