The reception of ‘folklore’ nationally and globally has been insurmountable. After the first week of its release, it hit number one in the US Billboard charts and the Official UK charts and stayed there for over five weeks apiece. Additionally, the songs ‘cardigan’, ‘exile’ and ‘the 1’ all reached the top 10 in America and the UK, as well as charting globally. The recent Grammy nominations saw ‘cardigan’ nominated for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Pop Solo Performance’, as well as ‘exile’ for ‘Pop/Duo Group Performance.’ ‘folklore’ the album received nominations for ‘Album of the Year’ in addition to ‘Pop Vocal Album.’ For a surprise album, ‘folklore’ seems to be doing pretty well. Although 2020 has been a messy year at best, and a catastrophic year at second best, it has not been wholly bad. Certainly, without it we would not have been blessed with an album that has redefined the way in which music is released, produced and listened to in the modern age.
