Day 9 is a pretty basic build – not as impressive or eye-catching as the previous model, but a useful addition to build out the Yule Ball scene. I would really like to know your feeling of the calendar, so, please, let me know in the comments below.

Diverse minifigures are a bit of a rarity with LEGO, so it’s great that we have a relatively accessible way for fans to get their hands on Padma, who makes her debut in LEGO Harry Potter and is exclusive to the 2020 Harry Potter Advent Calendar. To everyone that has been participating in the comments, and sharing your thoughts, I’ve really enjoyed getting to know and hear from so many of you, and it’s always a massive pleasure reading about what you and your family has thought about the calendars! This year there was the second edition of the Harry Potter Advent Calendar, with the usual 24 gifts.

Since its official release in summer 2020, online you can find plenty of pictures of the gifts. However, I tried to avoid them and I will give you my impression on a daily basis. Fans of the Goblet of Fire/Year 4 are going to be delighted that we have more Book/Movie 4 references, and I love how it’s all coming together. It’s a relatively simple build, and I love that the sign is printed! The sign is exclusive to this set, and is a fun little addition to your LEGO Harry Potter collection. Together with the trees, it really feels like the Yule Ball is coming together, and I really like the design of the banquet table, and especially the great use of colours that contrast nicely against the white and transparent pieces. I hope that Funko stops repeating the same figures but I guess that as long as people spend money on them that they will continue to do what they are currently doing. I guess we will find out in 2022 if all the duplicates from the 2021 set hurt their bottom line or not. If they continue to put out duplicates going forward then my guess is that not too many people stopped buying them from the previous year(s). Time will tell.

On Day 15, we get yet another Gryffindor Ravenclaw – Padma Patil, who was Ron’s unfortunate date to the Yulr Ball. Padma Patil is featured in her Yule Ball dress – a magical take on a Sari to pay homage to Padma’s Indian heritage and culture. Finally the last of the three main characters of the Harry Potter saga: the wonderful Hermione Granger in her Yule Ball’s dress. The icing and writing is a little wonky, and Hagrid misspells birthday to “birthdae” but Harry is delighted nonetheless, as this is the first birthday cake he’s ever received in his life. I guess this places Harry before he boards the Hogwarts Express, and he hasn’t caught the train yet!

Includes Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Padma Patil, Parvati Patil, and Cho Chang minifigures, plus buildable models such as a miniature Beauxbaton's carriage and dining table with ice-castle centerpiece. The broom and shovel are nice, and can be attached via the clip. You can also attach the wreath to either stud, but I chose to clip it on the flag, to make it slightly easier to grip and raise it to send the letters flying out! At least the Big Trio now has competition, and Harry has his enemy to torment him for the remainder of his schooling life at Hogwarts. Paired with the nano-Hogwarts, I think the Durmstrang Ship looks great in spite of the scaling being a little off, but I highly enjoyed the design and putting this together this morning. The good news is that despite being a Muggle invention, gramophones do exist in the Wizarding World!

What do we get after yesterday’s Leaky Cauldron sign? Day 8’s Table… with 2 coffee mugs, and a bottle. That’s it.The table has benches on the sides, and has a number of food items – a plateful of cherries, a baguette and a pumpkin. The presence in the advent calendar is hopefully a teaser of what’s to come in 2021 – now that we have more of the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic students and teachers, we absolutely need a new Igor Karkaroff minifigure! p It’s a pretty plain build for the calendar, with the spellbook just having a plain tile on the inside, but I do like the wand, which comes in its own wand case – a new element first introduced in 75978 Diagon Alley.
