About this deal

The book begins with the lines: “A man stood on a hill and looked at a star. All he thought about, dreamed about, was the star.” It follows a businessman who will do anything to travel to space, even if he has to destroy his own planet to get there. When he finally reaches the faraway star – a barren planet with “no trees, no flowers, and not a blade of grass” – he starts to think that maybe Earth wasn’t that bad in the first place. Foreman uses unique concepts to bring to life truth about man's destruction of the Earth through industrail development. In the story a man looks into the sky and sees a shining star. He wishes to go and visit this new world in hope to find lushus landscapes willed with wonderful new life forms.

Sheet – Use the number lines on the worksheet and make up a ‘first, then, now story’ The first story has been done as an example.

Not knowing it is Earth he sets off again in its direction in hope to finally find a world of natural beauty.

Dinsaurs And All That Rubbish is a fantastic colourful and imaginative take on how to teach young children how important it is to look after the Earth. Children to create these sentences orally using the words from their thought tapping. (No written recording). Video– This is a lesson on related facts and fact families. In this lesson, they will work practically to find links between the addition and subtraction sentences. They will represent this on ten frames using small objects. They should recognise that addition and subtraction are inverse operations. (if you would like to view the powerpoint used in the video it is here).They are devastated by what they see and set out to remove all the man made roads, pilons, factories to help clean up all the rubbish. Hello! We have written a introduction letter to explain the format of the blog and to try and help you navigate it. Please do take the time to read through this before looking at the blog as we hope that it will help make it easier to navigate what is clearly a low of new information! Research the topic of dinosaurs. What different types if dinosaurs were there? How were they similar / different? Powerpoint– Work through the powerpoint recapping the key skills of ‘days of the week’ again and Number bonds. There are links to the following built into the powerpoint:

Handwriting sheet here– Complete the handwriting either on a printed copy of sheet 1 or use your writing book to copy the words in and write each word 3 or 4 times using correct formation. These words are our high frequency words. Read them through before writing. Extended challenge: Can the children identify why materials are man-made and which occur naturally? This is a book that fearlessly exposes the hitherto unexposed connections between rubbish, the endless tons of domestic and commercial waste that we produce, and dinosaurs.
