Description

Several Commodore 64 games were released on the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console service in Europe and North America only. The games were unlisted from the service as of August 2013 for unknown reasons. [120] THEC64 and THEC64 Mini [ edit ] THEC64 Mini (top) next to an original C64 Full-size THEC64 in its original box

There were other reasons attributed to the failure of the C64GS, the major ones being the following:At a mid-1984 conference of game developers and experts at Origins Game Fair, Dan Bunten, Sid Meier, and a representative of Avalon Hill said that they were developing games for the C64 first as the most promising market. [37] By 1985, games were an estimated 60 to 70% of Commodore 64 software. [38] Computer Gaming World stated in January 1985 that companies such as Epyx that survived the video game crash did so because they "jumped on the Commodore bandwagon early". [39] Over 35% of SSI's 1986 sales were for the C64, ten points higher than for the AppleII. The C64 was even more important for other companies, [40] which often found that more than half the sales for a title ported to six platforms came from the C64 version. [41] That year, Computer Gaming World published a survey of ten game publishers that found that they planned to release forty-three Commodore 64 games that year, compared to nineteen for Atari and forty-eight for AppleII, [42] and Alan Miller stated that Accolade developed first for the C64 because "it will sell the most on that system". [43] From a modern programming point of view, the earlier versions of Commodore BASIC presented a host of bad programming traps for the programmer. As most of these issues derived from Microsoft BASIC, virtually every home computer BASIC of the era suffered from similar deficiencies. [11] Every line of a Microsoft BASIC program was assigned a line number by the programmer. It was common practice to increment numbers by some value (5, 10 or 100) to make inserting lines during program editing or debugging easier, but bad planning meant that inserting large sections into a program often required restructuring the entire code. A common technique was to start a program at some low line number with an ON...GOSUB jump table, with the body of the program structured into sections starting at a designated line number like 1000, 2000, and so on. If a large section needed to be added, it could just be assigned the next available major line number and inserted to the jump table. On the one hand, it's cool that you can load up BASIC and use the C64 Mini as a functioning (albeit limited) computer. On the other hand, its approach to ROM loading, authentic as it may be, feels especially antiquated in 2018. The C64 (as we will now call it to save much needed time and finger ache) was made to rival the NES and the best Master System games. It was invented and produced by Commodore International, and although it’s a legendary bit of kit, the competition eventually blew it out of the water.

In the last revision of the 64C motherboard, the 2114 4-bit-wide color RAM was integrated into the SuperPLA.
