Every good book has an ending that ties up the story whilst still making you think about the storyline. What made You Can Trust Me incredible in this respect was how the ending was haunting and sent shivers down my spine. The way that it ended was something that I never could have imagined. As mentioned above, all of the storylines tied together perfectly, and I never dared to believe that all the individual plot points were all linked together in the end! When Alana’s best friend is found drowned in a pool, the forensic reports discover date-rape drug GHB in her blood. GHB from a drink Alana knows was meant for her. Despite the swirling rumours, the suspected group of boys seem untouchable. To investigate, Alana allows herself to be pulled into their glittering orbit. But among shifting alliances, changing alibis and buried secrets, can she pinpoint which of the boys is responsible before she becomes their next target? I constantly thought I knew who the killer was and then kept changing my mind. I even guessed correctly at one point but once again decided it couldn't be them. Right up until it was revealed.

I’m always with you wherever you are as I’m always closer to you than you think; I’m right there in your heart. I will always be there for you whenever you need me. I love you more and more. A completely gripping thriller, and a breath of fresh air. You need to read this book‘ Rebecca Reid, author of TRUTH HURTS Livy feels an added burden of guilt because Julia had left a number of urgent messages on Livy's phone, asking Livy to call her. i'm never much of a murder mystery fan, but this was a really excellent read. the characterisation of the ensemble is definitely its high point, but the twists were also very well thought-out.You Can Trust Me, my second read of the year, and a solid four and a half stars. I finished reading a few days ago, and I'm still reeling now. With mounting trepidation she reaches the living room and sees her friend lying on the couch, apparently asleep, though some deep and horror filled part of Livy knows that Julia is not just asleep.

There were heaps of characters that were really good in this book that made the experience worth while but I just couldn't agree that its "fast paced" or that its "gripping".This suspenseful thriller was recommended to me by my reviewer friend, Tom McGee. Tom's literary tastes are usually on the money and with his review, he hit the nail on the head.

You Can Trust Me by Gina Blaxill | Waterstones

I will always be here for you whenever you need a shoulder to cry or lean on and look into your eyes as I tell you that all will be alright. I love you forever. Julia is the friend Livy turns to for everything, the friend who has been through all the good and the bad, her link to her murdered sister. But, after a recent tragedy, Livy finds herself questioning whether she ever really knew Julia at all.... I do think some of the characters were done really well especially Livy's husband and Julia's brother. I think Hannah, at age twelve was portrayed quite well too although I was annoyed that Livy never seemed to give her any consequences for talking rudely to her and the like. JOANIE and ROBBIE – Julia’s mum and brother. Couldn’t really work out if people hated Robbie, or if he was supposed to be a nice guy. Bit weird, that bit. Joanie just seems to have zero reaction to the death of her daughter, and they burn all her stuff fairly soon after the funeral. Which is lovely, isn’t it? I’m indeed glad you found me and in return, I promise to never take you nor your friendship for granted. I will always and forever cherish every moment with you. I love you more, my lovely friend.

Reviews

Desperate to understand the tragedies of her past and hold her unraveling life together, Livy throws herself into the search for Kara and Julia’s killer, who she now believes is someone close to her family. But if that is true, who can she still trust? Damien, the man Julia was secretly dating? Leo, her husband’s boss and a close family friend? His son Paul, her husband’s best mate since college? Or Will, her own dear husband, who has betrayed her perhaps one time too many? Loved how it grasped my attention right from the off and then didn’t let go!’ Sam Carrington, author of SAVING SOPHIE This wasn't quite 4 stars, but I rounded up just for the simple fact that I enjoyed the speculation. The author did a great job at shifting the suspicion among a handful of characters. It really fit the title as she explored who can you really trust. The author played on that idea a lot. Can you trust your husband? Do you really know your best friend, your boss, your family friends, your children? You rule my heart, life, and world with your sweet love and I will never do anything to jeopardize that, not even for a day. I love you more than you can imagine. This book is at its darkest in the sections written from the point of view of the killer. His coldness & matter of fact descriptions are chilling.

And then we're in the living room and Julia's lying there on the sofa. And she could be asleep but I know that she's not." Alana is the new girl, no one knows her and we don't know any people as we read from her point of view. So it just makes the plot that much darker. My favourite thing about Alana is that she's not afraid to ask questions. She's suspecting and questioning people left, right and centre and I was here for that strong female energy all the way through. I find characters similar to Alana in other books are meek and too frightened. But not this one! When Livy arrives at Jula’s flat for a lunch date, she finds her dead, as she did not answer her text the previous night and now feels guilty. Of course, her death was ruled as a suicide; however Livy cannot accept this decision, and begins to dig further to solve the mystery of her friend. She knows her friend loves life, and would never take her own life. What if she was murdered, and by whom? Could the killer be one of Livy’s friends, family or acquaintances? Brief summary: New girl Alana attends a New Year's Eve party which goes tragically wrong when her good friend Esme is found face-down in a pool, presumed drowned. Soon, it transpires that Esme had a date-rape drug GHB in her blood and Alana realises, with horror, that it was HER drink that was meant to be spiked: Esme took it at the last minute. Guilt-ridden and angry, she makes a promise to herself and Esme to find the culprit but soon discovers that this is much harder than she had anticipated: the group of suspects all seem to have a suspicious past and a toxic attitude towards friendships and relationships that even stretches as far as rape and murder. So clever, so unpredictable, dark, haunting. I don’t have enough words to do it justice’ L V Matthews, author of THE PRANK (coming 2021) Gina Blaxill wanted to be an author from a very young age - she started writing properly when she was eight and has not stopped since.
