Description

I spy colours: Go outside to your garden or an outside space. Look around and play ‘I spy colours’, where one person says “I spy with my little eye, something blue.” Your child has to guess what it is. Try it with other colours. Rainbows: Paint or draw a rainbow. Talk about each colour as you use it. You might like to display this in your window. Useful that they also use the correct colour names rather than 'purple' to expand their knowledge and vocabulary. It tells the story of a curious little owl who explores the forest when the sun goes down, meeting all of the other nocturnal creatures who live there.

Wow! Said The Owl is a simple, easy to read story with beautifully illustrated double spreads. Little owl’s reaction to all the beautiful colours she sees is simply ‘Wow!’ and children enjoyjoining in with therepetition, thisrepetition also makes this a great book for beginner readers. Fascinatingly, he collects textures from unusual places – the clouds in Wow! Said the Owl have a pattern he scanned in from the inside of an envelope from his bank! What sort of creative mind comes up with that idea? Every time we read Wow! Said the Owl now – which is to say, several times a week – I’ll pay special attention to those patterned clouds and be reminded how a clever mind can see creative potential in the most mundane objects.Wow! Said the Owl tells the story of a curious owl who stays awake all day instead of having her usual sleep. Read or watch the story with your child and try the activities below. They will help your child to explore colours and understand the difference between night and day.

From the warm, pink glow of dawn through to a day filled with the bright colours of green leaves, blue sky, white clouds and, finally, a stunning rainbow — ‘WOW!’. But despite the beauty of the daytime world, the little owl decides that the night-time stars are the most beautiful of all. Explore the wonderful world of colours with a curious little owl, who is determined to stay awake and see what daylight brings. Mummy and Ellie-Lara bot love sharing this book. Its a great book to explore colours and wildlife. We loved the repeating phrase..."Wow" could be one of our first words! Here's the story of a curious little owl determined to see what the world looks like during the day. And what does she discover? A wow-worthy symphony of colors―from red butterflies to orange flowers, from white clouds to green leaves. Words for Life is created by the National Literacy Trust and supported by UK publishers with funding for its creation from the DfE and Kindred 2.

Brilliant book! I had to work hard to encourage our baby to focus on books and this was THE book that got him hooked. He loved the repeated and enthusiastic use of the word 'wow' and of course the owl. Subsequently his first word was 'owl'. We are committed to making your visit to our theatres as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. All of our Front of House staff undergo disability awareness training and Dementia Friend Training and will be pleased to assist you should you require any information or help. Loved this book about the owl who stayed awake all day and saw the beauties of creation as the colours changed from pink dawn to dark night. Helps children learn to recognise colours while being enchanted with the story.

Little owl is the only character in the book and thestorystarts by explaining that owls stayawake during thenight before it introduces little owl’s very ‘un-owl-like’ behaviour. Throughout the day little owlsees seven different colours, some in the sky, some in the trees and flowers but also when it gets dark. Beautiful performance. My 2 year old was absolutely mesmerised. I'm so glad this gem was his first experience of the theatre. This book was given to my daughter, who was 16 months at the time. I thought it might be too old for her but she brings it to me every day saying 'WOW'. She absolutely loves it. Really like this book, learning colours and great pictures from day to night. Kept my 2 year old very interested and learning her colours. Preschoolers will love joining in with the WOWs in this warm and simple story, and a final activity spread about colours makes this book perfect for sharing together at story time.
