When I got the Hd599 i was quite dissapointed by the sound, i'm not sure if it's the headphone or the sennheiser sound signature. Is giving the hd600 a try? Money isn't a real issue, but i'm a bit skeptical since I didn't like the hd599 and i'm not sure how similar it is to the hd600. Should I give it a shot or just try a different brand The sound quality of this headphone is quite smooth and engaging. You will feel every note reaching you and delivering the melody in an outstandingly pure form. The sound delivered has a natural feel to it and provides a unique warmth to the listener. This is the perfect headphone for an audiophile and one wanting to step onto the path of becoming one. What motherboard do you have? It may just be Sennheiser's sound signature. I find the vocals to be a bit too veiled, and the overall sound too smooth, but this is of course personal opinion and most people love their 599 Without too much emphasis/deemphasizing the mid bass, the frequencies of the sound profile are excellent.

The new 650 from the Devialet 120 sounded cold, unexciting and veiled in comparison to another Senn’s I had with me at the time HD 250 Linear II (My Favorite Senn’s till date). Don’t get me wrong, the folks who like that sound signature, love them a lot. But for me it didn’t work as well. Well, i didn't heard the 599, but i heard from other "audiophiles" thats a bit better than 598 ( its like between 598 and HD600 ). Regarding the internal part of the 650, they say that over time the sennheiser has updated to improve, so from time to time, those 650 updated so easier to drive? since it was one of the things people complained about, it would not be any amp that had the 650 power it needs.Though I couldn't find any information about the HD599 SE when googled. so pls provide your valuable inputs. Also HE4XX that i currently use doesn't have much bass by default, but with some EQ they have it more than enough and its really nice and realistic bass, the sub bass is pretty good ( sounds like my subwoofer, while the 598 for example is artificial af and has pretty much zero sub bass ), but to get the good bass on planars u need good AMP, since its like +12dB ( -12dB preamp ) on low end to compensate the volume. A point of disadvantage with the design is that it does not come with any sound control. You won’t be able to control the volume just with the headphones. You will have to use the device it is connected to. But this disadvantage can be easily overlooked. The amazing amp experience that comes with this headphone will help you enhance the quality of music. Feel and comfort I got the HD580 after a rave review in Stereophile, but lost interest after awhile because it was too distant. Then the HD600 and 650 original edition (which was essentially the same as the 600), and while they were nice, they were just too ‘sweet’ or polite etc. – boring I thought. I settled for awhile on a Grado SR325 and a Senn HD565, which were similar in sound, but I’ve never heard the current HD650.

Not saying the 598 won't pull ahead or be more enjoyable in some respects. i just find that even though the hd600 is a bit darker, I find it more linear, natural and refined over the 598. Tried 598SR (same as SE) didn't like them sound too flat and unengaging for my taste. Generally prefer closed cans, while opens need to posses immersion from closed ones, otherwise no use for me. My guess is they tweaked 599 to have similar or like MRK1 said even better joyful signature 598Cs, but in an open design. On the other hand I'm a bit concerned, because there are reports changes are minimal and they still sound basically 99% as the old ones, which for me would be bommer... is a good price, I would go for them if I were you. The 599 definitely has a deeper and more engaging bass than the 598CS, which was pretty surprising to me. I had the same reaction as you when I got the original 598, very flat and unengaging (even though I wouldn't say they are "flat" if the bass is flat out non-existent, I would say the 598 had a reverse v shape with weak bass and veiled highs).

I would go with 6XX or 4XX, 4XX is more flat than 6XX and better for gaming as i know. 6XX should be better for music. I've also did some research on the Massdrop AKG K7XX and seems like its level below 6XX / 4XX. The AD700X i know has huge soundstage, but probs arent that good in sound quality ( since they're around 60-100eur and i've seen used for like 40-50eur ). Sorry for the late response, but yes I agree with your description. Is it worth trying a HD600 with amp though? I only hear good things about the hd600 and it's in a completely different price class as the hd599, so is this worth considering or are they too similar in sound signature? The most relevant feature of the HD 599 is the technical performance. First off, imaging is very precise and you can notice different layers and air among instruments. On the other hand, soundstage is both wide and deep, better than HD 600 family. This makes the HD 599 a great option to consider for gaming, it's a shame that connecting a mic is not that easy. After having launched the HD800S and the new HE-1 headphone, Sennheiser decided it was time to update the existing 5XX product line, of which the iconic HD598 is part of. The new HD598 is called the HD599 and that means it’s closer to the HD600, in more ways than you can think. This is my opinion, but if you're planning on keeping for a long time what you're buying, might as well spend a little more and get the better performer, now if you really can't spend/justify spending 70 more, well I can't blame you.As successor to our popular HD 500 series, the Sennheiser HD 5 model range offers high quality and value in any aspect. Powered by Sennheiser’s proprietary transducer technology including the “Ergonomic acoustic refinement” (E.A.R.) design, which channels the audio signal directly into your ears. Featuring a contemporary design that is both attractive and ergonomic. A real treat for all, who listen to their music with a sense of discovery. I tried them while gaming as well and found the same issue I had with music listening were present there as well. Not clear enough to be a satisfying gaming headset for me. At only 50 ohms and 106 db/ 1 V RMS, the HD 599 se doesn't seem hard to power at first glance. Unfortunately, they requiere you to have a good-great headphone output, connecting it to a cheap laptop or phone 3.5 port is a mediocre experience. Any dongle Dac would be just fine, DON'T BUY A HEADPHONE AMP. What seems to change for the most part is detail and bass control.

If an even-to-flat sound is your cup of tea, though, you’re better off opting for the slightly more-expensive HD 600 – for a clinical sound, the 600 reigns supreme. Past | HD650, HD800, Utopia, LCD2, HD700, HD540, HD250, THX00, EX800ST, SSR, Blessing 2, Shuoer S12, FH5S, XBA-Z5, SRH840, HD700, D2000 and more I don't know what Sennheiser was trying to achieve here. Low midrange is accentuated making male vocals and guitars louder, while high midrange is recessed. This is pretty evident with good records where the voice is not mastered very loud. Detail is just average. You know that's not true, i have 35ohm headphones ( HE4XX ) and they need as much power as HD600 if not more. For example im using FiiO K5 which is 1.5W @ 32ohm but i still can listen on high gain and pretty much maxed out, seems like they need like 3-4W for full potential ( not only for volume, but sound quality too ). Sensitivity is as important as Ohms. The HD599 – according to Sennheiser – lets the listener enjoy their choice of home entertainment with exceptional wearing comfort assured, thanks to the large ear cups and soft, replaceable ear pads. Created with Sennheiser’s “Ergonomic acoustic refinement” (E.A.R.) technology, the headphones have been designed to more effectively channel the audio signal directly into the ears of the listener for a more satisfying listening experience. Offering a step into the world of audiophile sound, the HD599 is a premium headphone for those seeking sophisticated sound, design and build quality. The top-of-the-range model impresses with a natural spatial performance.

What are some alternatives to the Sennheiser HD 599?

P.S. I've noticed that the 598 sounds bit darker on my onboard compared to AMP, so that also could be the case for not having an amp. Should you fork out the bills for this one? If you’ve been searching for an impressive dynamic sound with plenty of highs and plenty of lows – and the HD 598 just didn’t cut it for you – I’m willing to bet you’ll love these cans. To my own ears, they sound just a tad cleaner than the 598, but don’t tell the fanboys I said that. According to Sennheiser the HD 599 is your first step into the world of audiophile sound and I couldn’t agree more. It’s smooth, easy to like and listen to but you also get good detail and depth resulting in a musical and natural sound. However, the 560s also exist. I recently tried them out at Best Buy and I love the detail in those because its straight in your face. The 560s are the overachiever kids, the streaming service with a premium subscription. The 599s gives you what you need, but are more chill and know how to relax. I've been using them on and off with the 598CS and man the 599 is far superior in every single aspect. Even the bass is much better defined on the 599, it goes deeper and is also faster and more precise with no "boom" whatsoever, that's pretty odd for open headphones compared to closed ones! They're also clearer despite this, I mean it, the sound is crystal clear and the soundstage is immense compared to closed cans.
