A. If you are using Garden Paint on a metal surface then you will need an appropriate primer such as Hammerite, otherwise you can simply get painting directly onto the wood. Weathered terracotta needs to be water-bead tested. If the water beads on the surface, sanding will be required to remove the surface coating before painting.
