Description

Denon began its tradition in audio production in 1910, and to this day has produced a huge number of all-purpose components, but 50 years ago they started designing and manufacturing headphones. The tested model is so anniversary, but with its solutions and sound and a clear reminiscence of the days when Denon incorporated drivers from the famous manufacturer Fostex in his models. During this period, they produced several legendary models that are still famous for their best and most interesting designs. We have an opportunity to listen and review Denon AH-D5200 recently, so we can say that the tested headphones sound quite similar to the models from that period. Build Quality

Denon AH-D7200 Over-Ear Hi-Res Headphones, Premium Hi-Fi

Denon’s engineers designed this new model from the ground up, with two goals in mind: supreme sound quality, and ultimate comfort. With the AH D7200, Denon brings a similar design from its previous model and expands on its depth. There are more inconsistencies with the sound signature, especially in the mids, but it shines with its extension and more immediate grasp on the sound. I’m not certain this is a substantial upgrade from the D5200, but it will definitely be one to choose for its level of intricate layering and textured response. Pros I am also considering ZMF Pilot Pad but I can see its a bit too wide and I might have to fill it in with something to make it more wider. We have discussed the driver topic extensively in the D7200 thread, and the outcome was they are different drivers from the ones used in Fostex headphones: different diaphragm material, magnetic circuit, and suspension. May be manufactured by Fostex but that is irrelevant for the fact it's a different driver. The TX00 drivers are TH600 drivers. In addition, the driver loading (cups, Onken ports, damping) is different than in all Fostex/Massdrop headphone models.

With Denon keen to attach different housing materials to each model (which makes for an aesthetically pleasing line-up, for starters), it’s not surprising the AH-D5200 – the most affordable pair in the range – utilise neither walnut nor bamboo. Denon AH-D7200 review Excellent comfort and a smooth, refined sound will keep you listening for hours... Treble results look smoother than the TH-X00 models you measured, at least a little. A little more slowed downwards. The ATH-M50x one will cover the whole headband and also cover a bit of metal on the sides (looks less attractive)

Anyway, please try them, tweak them, improve them and do not forget to share it. See if you turn these settings ON / OFF how much difference that makes. This is just a slight improvement which I believe suits most of the genres out there and mainly it makes these headphones sound really good, amazing IMO. Finally I will say, I really like the fact that this can adopts 2x female 3.5mm ports for the cable. A superb choice, cable rolling is great and easy. Yay! I have been listening to lot of high quality .flac music, all kinds of different genres and also enjoying them while watching movies and little bit of gaming.

Denon AH-D7200 Over-ear Headphones Review | StereoNET

I could go on, audition them if you get a chance. They are actually very difficult to fault anywhere to be honest. Instead, it features ‘zebrawood’ (which gets its name from its distinct striped form rather than any ligneous feature you didn’t know a zebra had). It’s supposedly very dense, good for reducing resonances. The construction seems to be all metal, wood and leather. I cannot see or feel plastic anywhere, I could be wrong though.

Price comparison

The term “Free edge” refers to the physical edge of the driver itself, which does away with the traditional rubber surround that a driver usually employs. There’s no 3.5mm adapter plug (which is a shame), but you can detach the lead and swap it for other Denon cables that do have in-line controls. The AH-D7200 has a well-balanced, detailed sonic signature with impressive transient response and imaging. As part of Denon’s reference range, the D7200 claims a relatively flat frequency response, offering accurate sound – just as the artists intended. Listening to a variety of music genres, the sound is clear and detailed, with punchy but not overbearing bass, and its natural clarity is surely aided by the real-wood ear cups. I added a wood lacquer coating for better protection against accidental scratches... they look a bit darker now but I like it this way. I will post some photos after I find ideal headband cover.
