The Delkin Devices CFexpress Type B and UHS-II SD Memory Card Reader is powered via USB, and plug-and-play functionality means that no additional drivers or power adapters are required for use. The card reader is built using anodized aluminum, making it durable and able to withstand the rigors of professional use. It can store one CFexpress card inside it and comes with an included rubber cap to protect the card from bumps, impact, water damage, dust, and more. The SD card slot is located on the side of the device for easy access. The market for CFexpress Type A card readers is still relatively new, and the options are somewhat limited. However, there are several models available that offer impressive transfer speeds and convenient features to help streamline your workflow.

On the outside there isn't much to get excited about with CFexpress, as CFexpress card closely resemble XQD cards, but it's this very compatibility that's a key CFexpress attraction. If you've not encountered an XQD - and by extension, CFexpress - card before, imagine a blend between a traditional CompactFlash card and an SD card and you won't be far off. On the one hand these figures are hugely impressive results that eclipse any other memory card we've ever tested. However, aside from the 1678MB/s theoretical read speed score we achieved, which comes very close to the 1700MB/s claimed by Sandisk, in every other respect our CFexpress card didn't reach its claimed maximum speeds. The ProGrade Digital CFexpress Type A & UHS-II SDXC Card Reader offers exceptional performance, reliability, and convenience with its dual slots, compatibility with various cards, and rugged design. The Sony MRW-G2 CFexpress Type ASD Memory Card Reader delivers lightning-fast data transfer speeds and is ideal for professional photographers and videographers. Temperature did not appear to affect performance – and this was tested – but the tests did not wait for the camera to cool down between each trial which would have been optimal. Instead, we just made sure the temps didn’t exceed 45C.Some readers use a USB cable that’s hard-wired to the reader body, which can be problematic if the cable ever gets damaged.

Tested: New CFexpress 4.0 Readers Make Your Current Cards Way

Two sets of data were taken at 250 ISO and at 3200 ISO to see if there were relative performance differences with the different sized files (there weren’t any observable). Some of the data averages are rounded to the nearest ten so we don’t mistakenly imply that our precision is better than it actually is.

Thank you!

At present only a few stills cameras support CFexpress out of the box, most notably the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III, but this could soon change. With CFexpress cards sharing the same physical form factor as the existing XQD card format, it's possible for older XQD cameras such as the Nikon D850, Z 6 and Z 7 to be firmware-updated to support CFexpress cards. This not only opens up possibilities for compatibility with newer, faster cards, it could also save you money. As any Z 6 or Z 7 owner will know, XQD cards are far from cheap, mainly because Sony has a stranglehold on the market. CFexpress on the other hand is an open-source standard and the usual big names in the memory card business are queuing up to offer CFexpress cards.Relative to one another, the cards in the same class as one another showed only about 10 percent variance in performance. There certainly is shown a different set of classes, though, when looking at the 128 GB and 256 GB cards versus the higher capacity models. Those smaller cards get a roughly 20 percent performance hit on average. So, with everything performing at a very, very high level, and little variation among them, factors like price and service weigh heavily. Boasting max read/write speeds of 1730/1540MB/s respectively, you'll be hard-pressed to find a faster CFexpress card. What's more, with capacities ranging from 128GB right up to a humongous 2TB, there's sure to be a Delkin Power CFexpress card to suit your storage needs and budget.
