Thanks for your review. However my experience with the Olympic 5 on the Portuguese Camino was not what you experienced. Comfort en avontuur gaan samen. Beschermend en weerbestendig, lichtgewicht en snel of veelzijdig: vind de juiste wandelschoen voor jou. The toebumper: it’s more noticeable with the toes from the inside while running and it somehow requires more space inside the toebox so i really think i would have to size up a halfsize which is strange…with the 4.0 there is ZERO uncomfyness anywhere inside the shoe to complain and the shoes are 100% true to size. I've spent some time on the road with the Olympus 4, and it's felt really good for easy miles. It might not be my first choice, just because of the potential for premature lug wear from the road surface, but if you want a true do it all road and trail shoe, I think it would work for you. Like every Altra shoe, the Olympus 4.0 features a foot shaped toe box, which may feel loose in the forefoot to those more used to a narrower shoe.

In summary, with everything else being equal and average, i f the event distance is more than, say, 75 miles (120 km); then the Olympus is likely to be a better choice over the Lone Peak's because of its extra cushion.

Additionally, Lone Peak 4.5 looks quite pretty ( this Gray/Orange color of Lone Peak 4.5 is really liked by many - including me). Disclaimer: The video shows 1 out of 5 takes that we make with the flexibility measurement tool to ensure accuracy. Footshape: Making shoes that actually fit the anatomical shape of a human foot is what Altra is all about. This is most obviously noticed with the wide toe box, which allows the toes to spread and behave naturally.

Just an FWI and to set the record straight. The Olympus 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 also have Vibram MegaGrip on their soles. This newer 4.0 just seems to add possibly a bit more and what appears to be more aggressive lugs. Great looking update that will replace my 3.0’s with tons of miles. I'd even go that far and recommend you to downright IGNORE EVERYTHING else such as traction, fit, breathability, durability etc... Excellent - thanks Jeff. I will soon need a replacement for my Go Trail Ultra 3s, which are very soft and bouncy, having remained so for almost 500 miles.

Hi, lets start I am a novice have run some races Num Num 32km and others of 20km and did the Num Num with Solomon’s, they are a bit narrow for my feet and I do weight 106kg at 6,1 ft. I bought a TMP 1.5 and found them thin whilst the Olympus 3.5 I found to wiggly not stable under my foot. Do you think the Altra Lone Peak will give more stability ( I will never do more than 40km) The plush cushion of the sole makes the Olympus 4.0 less responsive than one would hope. Some of the energy return is eaten up in the sponginess, but of course, this isn't really a shoe for taking to the races. Comfort for days! The fit is spot on lengthwise, and the width is ample from heel to toe. The toebox is classic Altra, meaning very wide and roomy, with a slightly reinforced toe bumper. It isn’t overly protective, like a shoe designed for extremely technical use and it is so high off the ground anyways there is plenty of height between toes and the ground, but the Olympus isn’t that shoe anyway. Thanks for the answer Jeff! What about fit comparison between Olympus 4 and Timp 2? I've low volume foot but Timp 2 fits me pretty good (Olympus 4 is not avaiable in Czech Republice yet...) and I really like the toebox...is Olympus 4 much wider or similar to the Timp 2? Thanks! Another key feature of Altra shoes is the wide toe box, known as the “Footshape”. By allowing your toes to relax and spread out naturally, it lets your big toe find the optimum position for stability and power.

The Upper Mesh is so and so…its a bit more airy but got less structural support than the 4.0 Upper so offcamber situations ontrail feel more vague. Based on our durometer measurements, the foam on the Altra Olympus 5 is moderately soft. It is 20% softer than the average of trail running shoes, to be specific. While this is great for more technical trails, this may be a bit less desirable for more runnable trails that you may come across. Like the Lone Peak, the Olympus is designed with Altra’s “Original” fit, which happens to be their roomiest. Of course, everybody’s feet are different, so calling this a good thing would be absolutely ridiculous. However, generally, I think that more space is conducive to foot wellbeing over long distances as they swell and spread throughout the day, weeks, and months. If you like the fit of Lone Peak’s, then the Olympus will probably work for you too. Comfort But if you like a lot of cushion and a shoe that can hold up to some serious wear and tear, you should definitely consider the Olympus 4.0. You are very welcome. Unfortunately, I've never run in the Timp (any version, not just the 2) so I can't say with any certainty - but from what I've seen of the Timp in pictures I'd imagine the Olympus 4 is a similar fit.
