Description

If you were a princess, which life would you rather have? Living in a tower or going on adventures? Feisty Princess Sue escapes the clutches of her twit of a Prince in a funny, feminist twist on the traditional princess tale. This is a story about adventure, mischief and unlikely friendship.

How has Disney not made a CSI-related show set in the fictional worlds that they created? The question on its own may have an obvious answer but it does bring the thought of who would be charged for simple, everyday crimes in these fantastical worlds? This may be a bit of a deep cut for many. The name Giselle isn't the most recognizable of Disney princess yet a few may recall the film Enchanted, a mix of live-action and animated. Giselle was the princess of the animated world who made some questionable decisions even if she's one of the more likable redheaded Disney heroines. For a high-tech version, you can play ‘One Word Story’ using predictive text on a phone - if you have permission first. You type in a word and the phone suggests the next word for you, and you keep going until you have a story. This method creates very unusual stories. Knowing she couldn't defeat the dragon alone, the Worst Princess gathered a team of misfits who were also considered the worst at what they did. There was a clumsy knight, a shy wizard, and a talking squirrel. Together, they strategized and came up with a plan to outwit the dragon. While the hand prints are drying, draw and decorate a dragon picture. Once your hand prints have dried, cut them out and add them to your picture. You could make them flames coming out the dragons mouth or put them on the body as dragon scales.

Yet, while these walking, talking, and singing balls of happiness seem sweet and kind on the outside... what's not to say that they don't have a dark side? If one were to look closer at princesses, they might start to see a darker side. Une histoire avec une princesse qui n'est pas comme les autres, qui est rebelle ? Je signe tout de suite. You could copy the illustrator’s style, repeat the words exactly, or you could make it your own by changing the pictures and words. Belle begins her story in Beauty and the Beastby singing a song as she goes about her daily routine in her little village. Although it's a catchy song and wanting something more in life is perfectly fine, it's a bit overly judgemental on Belle's part as she describes the town going about their daily business. Even though Sleeping Beauty was released 22 years after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Aurora is not much better than Snow White. She allows everything to happen to her, even before Maleficent puts her in a trance. Many Disney fans have complained about Aurora, claiming that her only notable trait is beauty. Sleeping Beauty hammers home the message that Aurora is the perfect woman, but she only has 18 lines of dialogue, which doesn't bode well for that message. This may stem from the fact that Aurora spends most of the film asleep, but some argue that the titular character should have more of a role in the movie.I thought this was a great story! I loved the humor. It's also empowering to see the lead female character want to go against the stereotypes. A fun story about a princess who gets annoyed with being expected to sit around and look pretty, who decides instead to team up with a dragon and go on adventures! Not the first picture book I've seen with this theme, but I always enjoy these twists on classic tales. The art in this was particularly good compared to some others I've seen.

You never know, being the 'worst' might just make you the best! Remember, it's okay to be different. Embrace your uniqueness and believe in yourself. There once lived a tiny frog who called himself Sir Lilypad (though his brothers called him Lilytad). When you are very small, it is hard for anyone to take you seriously. One night Sir Lilypad read a book about a frog kissing a princess and becoming a tall prince. Brilliant. the next day he would save a princess, earn a kiss, and grow. Off he went. He soon found a huge, old ogre. But the Ogre was too old to steal princesses and just told Sir Lilypad to go home to his mummy. Sir Lilypad blushed but kept searching and searching, but he could not find a princess to save. Just as he was about to give up, he spotted a princess in the grips of a fiery dragon! She was perfect: flowing hair, cherry lips, a sword... a sword? Sir Lilypad would save her anyway. He charged, he poked the dragon with his wooden sword, he... was blown into the princess' hand by the dragon. The princess explained she didn't need saving, they were friends and she could take care of herself. Sir Lilypad burst out crying! Now he would never be a proper night. Princess Sue explained even small frogs can be knights and invited him to join her and the dragon on their adventures. So he did. He was a brilliant knight, without needing to change. And soon, Sir Lilypad became well known for being the bravest knight around. This book was so sweet! It is a refreshing take on the classic princess fairy tale. The illustrations were colorful and captivating for any audience. The story rhymed, which made it fun to read, especially out loud. Despite all this oppressive oversight, Aurora still manages to do the exact thing she's been warned against her entire life by reaching for that sewing spindle, and boom, into the deep sleep she falls. (Cue the puns about this story being a snoozefest.) It's no secret that Cinderella comes from a terrible living situation in Cinderella. Her stepmother and stepsisters are cruel and nasty, and her father died when she was a young girl. However, many viewers criticize Cinderella's behavior and her devotion to always being kind. Cinderella is, in short, nice to everyone, including her ungrateful family. She takes every insult with a smile and always treats her stepmother with respect. This is an uncomfortable sight, especially considering today's standards and what children should be learning from movie characters.

A much-needed reminder that we must carve out our own identities and not be forced into traditional roles.’ Sue Hendra, co-creator of the bestselling Supertato Out of all the books I read, this one was easily my favorite. I wish that I had read more books like this when I was a young girl because I was always taught that girls must find their perfect prince and do what they say. Instead, this book teaches that girls can do whatever they want. Also, the illustrations in this book were beautiful and really fun. They were colorful and very inviting for the reader, and I loved looking at all of them.
