King of the Cloud Forests is a gripping and heartfelt war story from Britain s best-loved children s author, Michael Morpurgo. Every time I read a Michael Morpurgo book, I think I can't be more enthralled than the last one....then I am - AGAIN. In November 2016 Michael Morpurgo won the J M Barrie Award for his contribution to children’s literature. This award is given every year by Action for Children’s Arts to a “children’s arts practitioner” whose lifetime’s work has delighted children and will stand the test of time.J'ai maintenant comme ambition de vivre moi aussi aux côtés des yétis, avec la neige, les montagnes et les moutons.

Such an accurate protrayal of the Himalayas would be hard to find in fiction. This wonderful mythical story, epic in scale sees a lost boy befriended and saved by yetis. Incredible emotions are evoked between them as they are each reliant on communication by gesture rather than spoken word. It’s a gem of a book and one that like Escape from Shangri-Lawill appeal equally to someone of 10 or 110. Morpurgo's writing is clean and cohesive, padded with edifying descriptions and details that give the world and Ashley's thoughts depth without impeding the pace or easy digestion of the story. The consistency of the narrative voice gives legitimacy to the mythological presence and helps to lessen the jolt from reality to fantasy. This book was not what I was expecting. I only read one book of Morpurgo's before and I was excited to read more. Even though it was not as good as 'Private Peaceful', it still has some pleasant qualities. It is fast paced, unique and there a constant development between the characters. The ending was great. Michael Morpurgo is a master storyteller, former Children's Laureate and multi-award winner. This is a fresh reissue of a much-loved story with a beautiful new cover. Escaping from China as the Japanese invade, Ashley and Uncle Sung embark on a perilous journey across the Himalayas. Then Ashley finds himself alone in the hostile mountains, battling for his life. He is just about to give up all hope, when he has a mysterious and terrifying encounter. Ashley is seperated from Uncle Sung and finds himself living with gentle creatures, who revere him as a King ( or a God). The Yeti.

Berlie Doherty was born in Knotty Ash, Liverpool, the youngest of three children. She always wanted to be a writer, but when she was little there were many things she wanted to be - a singer, ballet dancer, air hostess, librarian... Her serious writing started at university, where she trained to be a teacher. Now she lives in an isolated cottage in the country and writes in a barn overlooking the Pennines. She says of her writing: "After I finish a book I'm quite sad because I feel grieved that I have lost someone close; a great deal of myself is in my books." Michael's books have been translated into many languages including Chinese, Bulgarian and Hungarian, Hebrew and Japanese. He travels all over the UK and abroad talking to people of all ages at literary festivals, telling his stories and encouraging them to tell theirs. Lynne Reid Banks is a best-selling author for children and adults. Her classic children’s novel ‘The Indian in the Cupboard’ has sold nearly six million copies worldwide. She was born in London in 1929 and worked as an actress, writer and TV news reporter. Lynne has written thirty books: her first, ‘The L-Shaped Room’, was published in 1960. She now lives in Dorset, where she continues to write. Lynne says that writing for children comes much more easily than writing for adults.

Morpurgo added: “Storymakers and storytellers like Barrie, and like all the previous winners of this award, have given us the hope and faith children need, we need, to keep flying, have sustained us through dark and troubled times, have banished doubt. To touch the lives of children, to witness their listening and reading silence, is reward enough in itself. This is simply the icing on the cake.” My main reason for reading this was because it was a recommended text for a KS2 mountain based topic. I did enjoy the text once I got past chapter 4 as I found the first few chapters difficult to engage with. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - It is the tale of Ashley Anderson and Uncle Sung, who make the long and dangerous journey from his father's mission in China to try to get home to England, travelling through Tibet & Nepal's mountainous country. This book is adventure fiction, I usually don’t enjoy adventure fiction but I enjoyed this book because Michael Morpurgo is an incredible author. I have loved all of Michael Morpurgo's books so I decided to try this one.
