About this deal

Ultrasun is the perfect SPF for people who typically hate sun protection, but why I hear you ask? That’s easy – the instantly-absorbing textures, the weightless finishes and the once-a-day application are all reasons to fall in love with this innovative brand and why they stand out amongst their sun care competitors.

Most baby and child sun creams provide an SPF of 50 or 50+, and given that many people under-apply sun cream, using a factor 50 sun cream will provide more of a time buffer for being out in the sun compared with factor 30 sun cream. This is obviously a difficult figure to convert into layman’s measures, but with adults being recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to apply 35ml of sun cream (seven teaspoons), it will be between a quarter and half of this amount depending on the age and size of your child. What is the difference between adults and kids sun creams? However, it's worth remembering that the star rating is a system developed (and owned) by Boots and so not all sun creams will display it. Some sun creams use the PA system (PA+, PA++ and PA+++) while others use the general EU UVA logo (the acronym UVA displayed in a circle). The latter indicates that the product's UVA protection factor is greater than or equal to a third of its SPF level. Generally, sun creams for children tend to be a higher protection factor (SPF 50+) and fragrance free – to reduce the number of potential allergens in the sun cream,’ says Dr Rachel Abbott, consultant dermatologist and British Skin Foundation spokesperson. I’m not someone who wears foundation every day anyway, so I love the light unifying sheen that this sunscreen provides. It gives an effortlessly flawless “no makeup” look while concealing any imperfections. Who doesn’t want to look naturally airbrushed?

In harmony with people, environment and science

Myth Debunked: Yes, you can still get a tan while wearing Ultrasun sunscreen! Not only can you achieve a tan, but the Tan Activator Body will actually improve, prolong and intensify your natural tan. I wear shade ivory as my tone is quite fair, but it’s also available in a honey shade, which would be better for people who have darker skin tones. Yes! Ultrasun is Eco Pass Approved, and they’re the only suncare brand in the world to be accredited with this award. This means that their sunscreens are biodegradable and don’t cause harm to the environment, coral reef or aquatic life.

Ideally, babies shouldn’t need to wear sun creams as they ought to be kept in the shade and dressed in light, loose clothing that covers them up. Why I love it: One of the reasons I love Ultrasun so much is that they cater for everyone. The Anti-Ageing & Anti-Pigmentation sunscreen is the ideal choice if you struggle with areas of pigmentation and UV-induced dark spots. The UV index forecast, which runs from 1 to 11, identifies the strength of the ultraviolet (UV) radiation coming from the sun at a particular place on a particular day. 3-5 is moderate, and anything above 6 is high or very high. UVA rays are what contribute to tanning and will contribute to premature skin ageing. UVB rays are what burn the skin and turn it red. Both types of UV rays are associated with skin cancer. There are many factors that make Ultrasun stand out from its competitors. From their ethical values to their clean formulations, their weightless textures to their long-lasting protection – there’s a lot that makes Ultrasun special.

You can buy buggy and pram shades with a UPF factor. Just keep an eye on your baby and make sure the interior of the buggy doesn’t get too hot. Lead by example Overall, I really like these products. The price is comparable per mL to some Asian sunscreens and Ultrasun seems more suitable for outdoor wear. Emulsifiers: emulsifying agents together with mineral oils and UVA rays can lead to sun allergies in the form of Mallorca acne. It's not just about sun cream though. We’ve also spoken to child skincare and sun cream experts for their advice on keeping your little ones protected in the sun. This sunscreen is a mineral sunscreen. It uses titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for sun protection. Both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide almost never irritate even the most sensitive skin and eyes, but can leave a white cast. Irritation risk

UVA rays are the biggest cause of premature ageing on the skin, so this lightweight cream creates a powerful shield to absorb them and prevent them from causing damage.

What makes Ultrasun special?

They should be used from the age of three (find sunglasses that have an elastic strap so they stay on) and should carry the European Standard "CE" mark and the British Standard BSEN 1836:1997. Use a sunshade on buggies and prams More than you realise. Experts agree that most people don’t apply enough sun cream to themselves or their family. However, you’ll need to make sure you spend longer spraying the cream onto the skin to ensure you get enough as this method often means you’ll use less. This is because sprays tend to deposit less sun cream onto the skin as it has to be fine enough to be forced through an aerosol or spray pump, which can mean that the droplets are fine enough to not reach the skin, especially if it's a windy day. Sun cream is undoubtedly an important step, but it’s just one part of protecting your child from the sun. It’s important to remember that if your child goes red and burns in the sun while wearing a high SPF sun cream, it's not necessarily because the UVA star rating is too low.

They both offer the same level of performance. However, it’s always best to use caution and ensure your child doesn’t have an allergic reaction to the product, so try it before you head out into the sun,’ says Saul Pyle, a sun cream expert and Technical Director for Skinterest, which carries out research and development on skincare products. What type of sun cream is easier to apply – lotion or spray? There are various factors at play including whether enough sunscreen was applied, whether it was water resistant and your child was getting wet or sweating, and whether there was any transfer onto towels or clothing,’ says Pyle. Their SPF 50 products are PA++++ and the SPF 30 products are PA+++, which is not unusual considering that these are European sunscreens. European sunscreens with a circle around the letters UVA means that the PPD is 1/3 of the advertised SPF. As I learned from u/Peter_789's comment, SPF 50 + means the SPF is >59.9 and so the PPD is at least 20. Why I love it: This sunscreen is the go-to for anyone who struggles with sun sensitivities. The SPF50+ formula is suitable for the whole family and will ensure even the most sensitive and reactive skin is protected.SPF is one of the best anti-ageing steps you can take, and it’s more effective the earlier you start as the majority of premature skin ageing comes from damaging UV rays. This is why I always start my day off with a hard-working sunscreen that I can wear under my makeup and provide all-day protection. If your skin isn’t susceptible to sun sensitivities but you are planning to go away somewhere or live somewhere with very intense heart conditions, then the Extreme Sun Protection SPF 50+ would still be a good shout due to the very high protection it offers and the high absorption of UVA rays. Plus, the SPF spray can even be used upside down (trust me, I tried) so you can ensure all those difficult to reach places are always covered.
