Description

The AtomRemote app for iOS and macOS works with the AtomX SYNC module to provide remote control features for the Ninja V/V+ via Bluetooth® LE and RF transmission. The Shinobi just has the single HDMI in port with no output. It does have an SD card slot though allowing for LUTs and updates to be loaded on to the device. The Ninja V delivers a stunning viewing experience in a portable 5” multi-purpose device. The screen has 1000 nits peak brightness for daylight viewing, 10+ stops of dynamic range displayed, and 4K input. The 1920x1080 display has amazing depth and vibrancy thanks to colour accuracy, 10-bit processing and the ability to be fully calibrated by the user. Atomos and Canon are delighted to be bringing customers a world first for capturing stunning pristine 8K images with such an affordable, capable and compact camera system. This will be a true game changer in content creation. The tough AtomX SSDmini drives complete the Ninja V’s digital workflow. Smaller than conventional SATA SSDs they are an affordable professional alternative to recording to a camera’s internal memory cards.

To enable this functionality users need to upgrade their Ninja V or Ninja V+ with the latest firmware 10.72. The new AtomRemote App is available for free for all customers and is available via the Apple App Store. With frame-accurate timecode embedded directly into each recording you can accurately edit together multiple video and audio sources effortlessly using automated functions in all popular editing software. SSD STORAGE Big storage. Mini proportions Alternatively, if you're shooting some serious projects and need something even bigger, the Atomos Shogun which appears later in this list sports a massive 7-inch screen, perfect for use with the best cinema cameras. The Ninja V will also support 6K Apple ProRes RAW and it's the only monitor of this size to do so thanks to a deal between Apple and Atomos. Other features include pro-level monitor tools such as waveforms, false colors, HDR monitoring, and LUT support. Both devices offer various monitoring tools with some differences so what I’ll do is go through these on both devices to show them side by side. By taking advantage of the long-range RF transmission patented by Timecode Systems, AtomX SYNC can be used alone or in combination with AtomX SYNC, UltraSync ONE and UltraSync BLUE to synchronise apps and hardware devices.

Recording RAW gives users the maximum creative scope in post-production. Working with the unprocessed image as a starting point yields phenomenal results. Applying Apple ProRes technology compresses the RAW files allowing you to import, edit, manipulate and grade the pristine data without slowing down your edit. At the bottom of the Ninja V is the AtomXpand port which is partly hidden under the battery compartment. This accepts a whole range of Atomos expansion modules and supports up to 4K 60p and 12-channels digital 24-bit 96KHz audio. The first modules to be released are the AtomX Sync and AtomX SDI. The ProRes RAW format is a perfect vehicle for an 8K workflow, from ease of use natively on the timeline within Final Cut Pro, to the flexibility of the image processing with full adjustment of WB and ISO control. False colour – Both devices have the False Colour feature but again the Shinobi seems higher resolution with finer edge detail than the Ninja. The Ninja V does have a more detailed IRE scale however. The record tally light on the CONNECT accessory can now be enabled or disabled through the Ninjas menus. Is the content extremely valuable? You might want to record using RAW data, to ensure that the image is preserved as much as possible. This will also ensure that future advancements in RAW decoding make the most of the additional data captured. The Shinobi’s Zebras are more adjustable and precise. The ninja can only be set in steps of 5 with each setting showing around +/- 2% of the setting chosen. The Shinobi can be adjusted in steps of 1 and only shows the results of the exact setting chosen.

Regardless of how you plan to use the Ninja, you'll want to think about some add-ons. A battery is one. Atomos doesn't include one; instead you just get a power supply so you can plug the Ninja into a wall outlet. That's fine for use in a studio, but you'll need a battery to work with it in the field. The contents of the standard edition, without the accessory kit, are shown below. In short, Ninja V takes exactly what your camera sensor is capturing, enhances it and allows you to view and record it in amazing detail. This portable powerhouse gives you complete confidence in what you’re capturing, so you’re free to push creative boundaries more than ever before. Flexible Recording Capture every frame and make it your own Aspect Ratio – Both devices offer multiple aspect ratios however the Shinobi handles this better. The Ninja V displays a white line over the left and right sides of the frame covering part of the image whereas the Shinobi does not do this. The Ninja has more options though, including a 3×3 grid.

Pair your Ninja V and get ready to access a powerful collection of new cloud-based video production services Enter the three words that are displayed in the Ninja's CONNECT menu after pressing the “Pair” button. Atomos RemoteView lets you share what’s on your Atomos screen with other Atomos monitors, as well as with iPads, Macs and Apple TVs wirelessly. You can monitor what’s happening on-set and look through any connected camera taking the shot, from anywhere in the world. The less than ideal form factor and handling of interchangeable lens cameras (ILC) have led many manufacturers to design handy and innovative solutions for video; from housings, mics, handles, and of course, monitors.

For more information on the new features, improvements and known limitations, refer to the release notes for AtomOS 10.84.00. Atomos recommends that your Ninja V is plugged into mains power before commencing the firmware update. Of course, you may already own all some of this kit, but if you don’t then your total investment could effectively be doubling the price of the Ninja V itself, if you go for high-quality and large-size SSD drives. The 5-inch touch screen dominates the front. It's a bright panel, 1000 nits at maximum, which improves viewing quality under bright light. It features a crisp 1080p resolution, and can be set to display waveforms, zebras, and focus peaking, as well as to apply a LUT preview when capturing with a Log profile. The Ninja does some processing and enables a greater range of codecs, but that isn’t going to greatly improve the video quality or give you huge amounts of additional scope when it comes to grading. However, it does record at 4:2:2 rather than 4:2:0, so there may be a marginal improvement in the colour data, although I can’t see too much of a difference. The advanced long-range RF system is completely wireless, offering incredible accuracy and stability. Effortlessly synchronise your recordings with multiple camera and sound sources. Ninja V is a stand-alone system for 4k UHD, HDR and high frame rate capture that eliminates expensive, complicated and unreliable PC setups. Ninja V enables simple recording, monitoring and instant review. Capture every detail in HDR and automatically include all the correct HDR flags ready for upload to YouTube. Ideal for games development testing, pre-release capture sessions or just to show of your skills! ATOMX SYNC Making multi-camera mainstream
