Description

The army has a bit for everyone, from elite cavalry to hordes of skeletons or zombies, but the most effective way to play is to rely on its hordes, both as sacrificial pieces and as your hammer/anvil. The core gameplay is divided indeed in vampires and summonable units, setting a bit aside anything in between. Lore of the Soulblight Gravelords in Age of Sigmar The Kastelai are a sort of hybrid of the old Legion of Night and the pure “Soulblight” allegiance from Legions of Nagash. They give you the terrifying Blood Knights as a battleline and the ability to outflank with them. If you want lots of strong cavalry, these are your boys. Additionally, they get access to the Might of the Crimson Keep, any time a Vampire unit (so your Heroes or Blood Knights) kills an enemy unit they gain a bonus. Since Kastelai will likely rely heavily on Vampire Heroes and Blood Knight for Battleline they will often have fewer models on the field this will help soup up the more elite army. We’ll be taking a look at their updated rules in the future – so keep a bloodshot eye on Warhammer Community for more necromantic news. Some excellent information that we often use from articles like this one comes from YouTube channels like Warhammer Weekly with Vince Venturella, AoS Coach and of course The Honest Wargamer. Next week the Warhammer Twitch channel will host The US Open 2021 Finale, which is taking place in Texas on the 4th and 5th of December. This even brings the series to an exhilarating finale, and you’ll be able to watch the action live, with commentary.

Vampires are supernatural beings, neither alive nor dead – powerful necromancers with keen minds who can enthral at a glance and raise the dead with but a gesture from their pallid hands. It used to be a command ability, meaning in theory you could do it multiple times a turn. This was easier said than done, however. Cado Ezechiar instead is the protagonist of a series of novels from John French entitled The Hollow King. He cannot get any subfaction keyword but his melee profile has rend -2, higher than other vampires, and his signature spell allows either to do mortal wounds to an enemy unit or heal/resurrect friendly Summonable units. Ruled by Lauka Vai, Mother of Nightmares , the Avengorii dynasty is an assemblage of embittered monstrosities who have abandoned any pretence of nobility in their pursuit of true strength. By contrast, the wolf-blooded Vyrkros – such as Radukar himself, or newcomer Ivya – keep their animalistic tendencies at bay through sheer force of will, though many still devolve into howling beasts.

Battleforce: Ossiarch Bonereapers

Give the gift of Dakka this Christmas. This box contains a veritable tide of greenskins, with a whopping 20 Boyz, five Nobz, a swarm of Gretchin, a Big Mek, a Deffkilla Wartrike, and an Orky plane that can be built in four different ways. Necrons Battleforce: Worldscour Legion The Lore of the Deathmages can be used by the Mortarchs, Necromancer and Torgillius with great options like Waste Away that reduces by 1 the enemy wound roll and damage characteristic or Prison of Grief that assigns the strike-last effect. The Christmas Battleforces are here, accompanied by a Rohan Stronghold in a box, and one very swish looking Praetor for The Horus Heresy. This army is the successor of the previous Legions of Nagash, a placeholder “soup” battletome that contained all Death units not gathered in other battletomes. It differs from Legions as a few units have been removed, some added, and most received new sculpts, but the core and playstyle of the army remain really similar. Games Workshop has discussed revamping how battalions work so this could be something we’re missing. I’m hoping so, as the fact that some books have great ones and others do not is continuously frustrating.

Cursed Unlife also looks familiar and asks for either your general or two other vampire units to heal with The Hunger. This rule is now great anyway and vampires are stronger in general in this book, so this is one to take to the bank. Another solid set. For a new player I really like this box. First, the Heroes: The Boneshaper is a solid foundation to start from. Of the 3 generic Wizard Heroes I think the Soulmason is the strongest but the Boneshaper makes a decent follow up option. The Primordial Starhost is worth 960 points on the tabletop. Seraphon – Primordial Starhost Contents The main event next week is Battleforces, massive boxes containing a wealth of units for a faction. They’re the ideal place to start a new army for the new year , or to expand an existing force. There are 10 boxes (count ‘em) split between Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar. First up, everyone’s favourite grim future gets six boxes. Overall Legion of Night is solid. Not great, but if you like a lot of outflanking shenanigans there can be fun to be had here. Vyrkos DynastyOn the other side, the Deadwalkers are much more synergistic. The Dire Wolves are excellent chaff unit (units that you can sacrifice and use to delay enemies from getting where they can hurt you or force them to act against that unit instead of others). For example, are you afraid of Unleash Hell? Charge a unit of Dire Wolves into the shooting unit and let them decide if they want to spend a command point to blast off the wolves or take the charge and stop their only charge to shoot a charging unit. The remaining stuff is quite positive. The Bladelords are good, bodyguards for your more delicate or important Heroes like Teclis or the Scinari Cathaller are extremely important if you have the space. The wardens are your bread and butter and youll be buying a fair number of them anyway so good start to include them here. The other big change here is to the distances from enemy units, your returned unit only has to be set up more than 3” from enemy units, so it’s really difficult to zone out now. The trade off is that in the turn they are set up, they can’t charge or make pile-in moves. This renders the ability immediately less offensive than it could be in your own turn, but a better reactive defensive tool for throwing up screens in your opponent’s turn and it’s fantastic for throwing out control of objectives after your opponent has already made their moves. The Unquiet Dead There’s obviously different build options for some units which may effect final points values, but for the sake of the value breakdown we’re just using the box contents as advertised by Games Workshop.
