Description

DAC cable is applied for short-range interconnect between a NIC and network switch within 7 meters. However, most data centers interconnect (DCI) links between system equipment are between 10m to 100m, which exceeds the max distance of a high-speed DAC. The 10GBASE-T SFP+ copper module bridges the gap. The GLC-BX-D and GLC-BX-U SFPs also support Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) functions according to the industry-standard SFF-8472 Multisource Agreement (MSA). This feature gives the end user the ability to monitor real-time parameters of the SFP, such as optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser bias current, and transceiver supply voltage. The GLC-GE-DR-LX SFP also supports Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) functions according to the industry-standard SFF-8472 Multisource Agreement (MSA). This feature gives the end user the ability to monitor real-time parameters of the SFP, such as optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser bias current, and transceiver supply voltage. However, they do exist as "Direct Attach Cables". In this form, the modules are attached to either end of the cable, and are not designed to be removed. Flexibility of media and interface choice on a port-by-port basis, so you can “pay as you populate” Dimensions (H x W x D): 8.5 x 13.4 x 56.5mm. Cisco SFP+ connectors typically weigh 75 grams or less. The Cisco SFP-10G-LR-X is a multirate 10GBASE-LR, 10GBASE-LW, and OTU2/OTU2e module for extended operating temperature range. It supports a link length of 10 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF,G.652). The dual-rate 100M/1G 10Km SFP is interoperable with the IEEE 100BASE-LX and 1000BASE-LX/LH standards. The Cisco 1-Gbps SFPs are supported across a variety of Cisco networking equipment *. High Compatibility

The MAC is normally integated into the network device. The transciever may also be integrated or it may be in the form of a module. Integrating the transciever lowers the total per-port cost but reduces flexibility. The Cisco 10GBASE-LRM Module supports link lengths of 220m on standard Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) grade Multimode Fiber (MMF). To make sure that specifications are met over FDDI-grade, OM1 and OM2 fibers, the transmitter should be coupled through a mode conditioning patch cord. No mode conditioning patch cord is required for applications over OM3 or OM4. For additional information on mode conditioning patch cord requirements please see: https://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/product_bulletin_c25-530836.html. Twisted-pair cables consist of two conductors of a single circuit twisted together, which reduce the effects of EMI and mutual interference between pairs and improve electromagnetic compatibility. Nowadays the cables are shielded with aluminum foil to increase protection against crosstalk on neighboring lines. There are Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Cat7, Cat8 Ethernet cables that can be used in your network solution. And this 10Gb copper SFP+ solution can be paired with Cat6a/Cat7 or Better for a transmission distance of 80m. Latency The Cisco 10GBASE-ZR module supports link lengths of up to about 80 kilometers on standard SMF (G.652). This interface is not specified as part of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet standards and is, instead, built according to Cisco specifications. SFP-10G-ZR-S does not support FCoE. A GLC-BX40-D-I or GLC-BX40-DA-I device connects to a GLC-BX40-U-I device with a single strand of standard SMF with an operating transmission range up to 40 km.

An SFP - Small Form-factor Pluggable Transceiver - is just a little device that converts a standard set of signals to another standard set of signals. They often convert to fibre Ethernet connections, but can equally provide copper Ethernet or even direct SFP-SFP connections. A SFP-10G-BX40D-I device is always connected to a SFP-10G-BX40U-I device with a single strand of standard SMF with an operating transmission range up to 40 km. The GLC-GE-DR-LX SFP can interoperate with other 100M SFPs/interfaces as long as those are based on 100BASE-LX10 standard. A 5dB attenuator is needed on the path of dual-rate SFP Tx and 100BASE-LX10 interface Rx. No attenuator is needed on the other fiber strand. Information about Cisco’s environmental sustainability policies and initiatives for our products, solutions, operations, and extended operations or supply chain is provided in the “Environment Sustainability” section of Cisco’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report. Using fiber SFP+ modules requires fiber cables for connection. However, the current access infrastructure is dominated by copper cabling. Deploying SFP+ fiber modules is costly in terms of upgrading the network base from copper to fiber. Though using fiber modules in copper cabling is possible, additional copper to fiber equipment such as media converters is required. The 10GBASE-T SFP+ module supports 10G-T transmission over the existing copper cabling infrastructure.Cisco quality Identification (ID) feature enables a Cisco platform to identify whether the module is certified and tested by Cisco The 10G RJ45 SFP+ module is widely used in 10 Gigabit Ethernet, typically for data center interconnect (DCI) between a switch and NIC. We know that the fiber 10G SFP+ transceivers, and high-speed cables can also achieve 10GbE DCI connectivity. Given that 10G transmission over copper link has the cons of higher latency, more power consumption, and short reach limitations than optical link, some may ask: what's the purpose of the 10GBASE-T SFP+ copper module? The GLC-BX-D-I and GLC-BX-U-I are the Industrial temperature rated (IND) counterparts of GLC-BX-D and GLC-BX-U SFPS. This allows link operation in harsh environmental conditions where the module case temperature can be in the range -40°C to 85°C. The Cisco GLC-BX40-D-I, GLC-BX40-DA-I, and GLC-BX40-U-I SFPs operate on a single strand of standard SMF.

on Dell internal analysis using publicly available specs in August 2023 comparing maximum effective capacity for PowerStore 1200 and FlashArray //X20. Assumes average 4:1 data reduction for PowerStore, 5:1 for Pure Storage. Actual results vary.

Ethernet is a set of standards ( IEEE 802.3) which covers transmitting data via coaxial cable, twisted pairs as well as fibre. The Cisco 10GBASE-LR module supports a link length of 10 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) (G.652). SFP-10G-LR-S does not support FCoE. The GLC-GE-DR-LX SFP can interoperate with other 1G SFPs/interfaces as long as those are based on 1000BASE-LX/LH standard. No attenuator is needed in any fiber strand. The Cisco SFP-10G-ZR-I is a multirate 10GBASE-ZR, 10GBASE-ZW, and OTU2/OTU2e module for industrial operating temperature range. The SFP-10G-ZR-I has a limiting electrical interface receiver, which does not require EDC PHY on the host board, it can be plugged into any SFP+ port. It supports link lengths of up to 70 kilometers on standard Single-Mode Fiber (SMF, G.652), assuming a fiber chromatic dispersion of 20ps/(nm *km). This interface is not specified as part of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet standard and is instead built according to Cisco specifications. The SFP-10G-ZR-I has a cold start at -40⁰C; the transceiver will be operational except optical traffic is not supported from -40⁰ to -28⁰C, all other low speed features (DOM, I2C, etc.) are operational. The module is fully operational from -28⁰C to 85⁰C. There are cases where data center ToR switches are 10G SFP+ fiber ports only, legacy equipment has 10GBASE-T RJ45 ports and cable architecture is copper. The requirement is to make a connection between the ToR switch fiber 10G SFP+ port with the equipment RJ45 SFP+ port. Three solutions: 1. Replace the ToR switch with one with 10G RJ45 ports. 2. Use an SFP+ to the RJ45 media converter. 3. Use a 10GBASE-T SFP+ transceiver. Solution 1 is costly and solution 2 is not that stable.
