Description

A core principle introduced in the previous chapter is that organisations should have in place an effective knowledge asset management strategy. This strategy can be appropriately tailored to the needs of an organisation. This chapter explains how to develop such a strategy, which could be written up in a separate document or incorporated into existing plans and strategies. Chapter 7 contains more information on this. Why is strategic management of knowledge assets important? While the guidance clarifies best practice and provides recommendations, these should not be interpreted as additional rules. The following sections provide more detail on these activities and how knowledge assets identification and management can be integrated. Procurement Enforcement – how are you going to approach matters of infringement, have you budgeted for potential enforcement actions? any financial rewards programme should be considered within the context of the Civil Service Code’s values of integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality

Within organisations, this affects us all. Every time an organisation invests in itself to become better at its core task, it is investing in knowledge assets. Their effective management is part of good asset management which is the responsibility of all public servants. This is particularly important in knowledge-intensive institutions, such as public sector research labs and other bodies that conduct significant levels of public sector R&D.formal appraisal guidelines, for example, having knowledge asset work included and rewarded as an explicit work objective that contributes to the overarching goals of the organisation There are many challenges to making better use of government data, which stem from the way it is collected. It is frequently only stored and used within the organisation that collected it, in ways which do not facilitate easy transfer between organisations. Data can be a valuable knowledge asset, and care should be taken to ensure that it is collected and managed in a way that recognises its value. Roses are valued for many reasons including beauty, symbolism, fragrance, and history. The Rose a Colourful Inheritance tells the fascinating story of this treasured flower accompanied by lively text and sumptuous full-colour illustrations. Annex A contains more on the main categories of IP likely to be used to protect a knowledge asset in government In some fantasy novels I’ve read the romance is the central part of the story while the rest of the plot seems to be almost irrelevant. That is certainly not the case with A Court of Thorns and Roses. There are plenty of action sequences and schemes to keep the reader engaged.

Each organisation should [footnote 1] consider how best to apply the guidance based on the extent of their knowledge asset ownership and should take a proportionate approach. A more comprehensive approach might involve gathering an inter-disciplinary team, including colleagues from innovative areas of the business, as well as colleagues in corporate roles such as finance, strategy and legal. It's got a fair resemblance to Gone With the Wind - I've never read the book but I've seen the movie and Mary is just about as close to Scarlett O'Hara as they come - her obsession with Somerset (the cotton plantation) being the same driving force. This "Scarlett" though is a much more likeable person - driven, yes, but still loving, giving, and emotionally vested in others.

Once established, the Government Office for Technology Transfer will be able to offer some support to organisations in implementing parts of this guidance. More detail on this and other support is included in chapter 8. What are knowledge assets?

It is essential that the formulation of the procurement strategy, options and eventual procurement sourcing plan are developed in conjunction with Commercial and IP specialists at the start of the process. For complex contracts, one may wish to obtain specialist legal advice on the most suitable knowledge assets arrangements. a) develop a strategy for managing their knowledge assets, as part of their wider asset management strategy (a requirement of MPM) Finally, Rachel "suffered" from the same love of Somerset (or obsession as everyone else seemed to call it) and she's forced to give up her entire dream and love of farming when she married Matt. Well, we assume she's going to marry Matt since they're such precious soul mates. So, she can only farm on Toliver land? What made her fall in love with farming in the first place? Nothing to do with Somerset at all, but a shoot in the ground in her own home. A broad range of asset types fall into the category of knowledge assets. Often these different asset types are combined and produce more valuable knowledge assets. But it is helpful to understand the individual asset types, as many legal frameworks, in particular, use and protection rights, can vary between assets. Table 1.A below summarises these asset types, and groups them into thematic categories. Organisations in scope of this guidance are those headed by an Accounting Officer who is responsible for upholding Managing Public Money ( MPM). These organisations are primarily those classified to the central government sector by the Office for National Statistics ( ONS), but others will be in scope. The characters are complex and well-developed, and I particularly liked Feyre as the main character. She’s strong and courageous and I rooted for her throughout. Her love interest Tamlin is also a complex character and the romance between them was certainly steamy! There is a huge number of organisations that collect data to support their activities across government. Wherever there is systematic data collection, a potentially valuable knowledge asset may be generated. Roses have their thorns, and for Solnit that includes the environmentally destructive manner of their modern mass production. She makes the leap from Orwell’s garden to the industrialised rose farms of present-day Colombia, supplying North America with cheap blooms at allegedly heavy cost to their low-paid, non-unionised workforce – the sort of story Orwell himself might once have told.
