About this deal

Live filters can also act as organic waste producers. Some of them precipitate iron and phosphorus in the water. But beware: Live filters are not for everyone. They are not for germophobes. So, if you’re not sure about it, you can try using a bio-ball. After many years of research, Evolution Aqua have now developed a new media that not only gives class leading surface area, but also overcomes the problem of long maturation times. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to K1, try making straw fluidized bed media yourself. All it takes is some patience and a paper cutter. The resulting media should be close to K1 in performance. However, it is important to remember that k1 filter media isn’t a perfect solution for all situations. Nonetheless, you can use straw fluidized bed media for your filtering needs.

Premium Koi Direct To Your Pond Tategoi - Ogata Koi With Future Potential Tosai - 1 Year Old Ogata Koi Nisai - 2 Year Old Ogata Koi Unlike traditional filters, bio filter media has an improved surface area, which attracts more nitrifying bacteria. This means that your tank will be cleaner, and you won’t have to worry about dangerous spikes in ammonia and nitrate. It is important to clean this product thoroughly before using it, since it can contain dust and shells from different materials. They both look the same just one's bigger than the other basically. I only mentioned the volumes in litres for each as those were the ones stated by EA for either K1 or K1 Micro in an Eazy Pod which I thought might help with identification with out the need to measure the actual size of the media. 18 litres is going to be noticeably less than 30 litres.i have actually couple of hours ago, removed central column , removed trapped beads from upper slots.

The addition of these minerals creates a rough surface on the media. This textured surface has a microscopic honeycomb of peaks and craters that allow waste particles to collect, and nitrifying bacteria to form. How much K1 media to use

Why not take out a subscription to Practical Fishkeeping magazine? See our latest subscription offer. Plastic media works partly due to the bulk of the stuff in a container - my 200 litre barrels have around 60 litres of K1 in each, and I could add much more if required. K3 seems to be difficult to come by although the link above seems to show some. K1 micro and K3 seems much more expensive than K1 and that varies in price enormously. There are also some "K3 like" plastic medias out there, Oase do one. My answer to your question would be - why do you want to know? I did have 20kgs of crystal bio mixed in to the bakki but slowly replaced with bhm over time ,experience taught me that k1 or in this case micro k1 , is much better than jap matting, I have a very large, 4 bay multi bay filter, i had 1 with aerated k1, 1 with aerated micro k1 and 2 with aerated jap matting, the filter was very mature. Thanks to their large surface for the settlement of micro-organisms (Approx. 5000m² per m³) Oase Pond Pads will remove ammon
