I didn't like the writing of this book. This was my first by Adrienne Young, but I think I will still give her another chance. Gemma isn't even a licensed therapist to be handling all of his emotional damage. I can't with this. I just can't. “I wasn’t enough. I would never be enough to fix this man. He would drown. And I would drown with him.” I would say Fable doesn't have a bad plot, but it had a lot more potential that I felt it failed to deliver. His meaning filled the small bit of space between us, making me feel like the walls were creeping in. Because I knew why he’d said it. It was in the way his eyes dropped to my mouth sometimes when he looked at me. It was in the way his voice deepened just a little when he said my name. West was taking a different kind of risk by voting me onto his crew, and at this moment, he was letting me see it.

Right from the beginning, you really appreciate Heather’s search for what’s missing in her life and the organic friendship she develops with the rest of the Roamers is genuinely heartwarming. What’s so clever about Fablehouse is the fantasy element when the gang meet Pal and discover the Fae have been unleashed in their world so their friendship and self-worth is tested in such an extreme way. The fact Heather starts the story looking to escape but ends up battling to save Fablehouse shows the journey she goes on and you, the reader, are on the edge of your seat cheering her on throughout. Fablehouse is a story which shows the importance of kindness and knowledge, friendship and teamwork and embracing the magic around us – we all have the power to be what we want to be and not be defined by others. After her recent short stories and now Fablehouse, Emma Norry is showing she is a very exciting author to be watching (and reading!). As usual I’m at loss for words when it comes to Ms Winters’s tales, she spins a story so touching and raw, she creates characters so complicated and complex that will ultimately break you. Fable by Adrienne Young, is a Young Adult novel with a unique setting. Unlike most YA books that I've read before, which are set in a Palace or a war zone, this one is set on a ship. Unfortunately, that's where my praise ends, because besides the different setting, there was nothing else about it that I liked. These characters lie to live because to tell the truth is to lay yourself down, vulnerable for all to walk over. To tell the truth is to yield your hand where truth is the unofficial currency traders dwell in. So what you do is break it into pieces and hand each broken piece to one person to hold, unbeknownst to all else. It’s what a helmsman would do, and it’s what West does. And that is why there is an ocean of lies dragging behind the very ship Fable has paid and begged her way onto. But how far can you go before the wolves catch you? This is the story this book tells, and the rule it abides by. This book was ok. I had higher expectations because of the hype, but it disappointed me. I’m not 100% happy with it, nor am I really invested in anything that much. There are some light magical elements to this that I hope are built out a bit more in the second book. Fable's ability at reading gems is unique and I want to know more. At one point she leaves the island to look for her father. She makes a bargain with West, to ride out on his ship. Well, basically she has to but I can’t tell you why. Like light cast over the morning water, it became new. Every moment that lay ahead, like an uncharted sea. This was a new beginning.” There are some truly heartbreaking sections in the book, but the Roamers are resilient and brave, and are determined to rid the world of the Fae and rescue all those who have been changed and captured. The author has personal experience of the care system, and this is clear throughout the novel as she gives the reader a wonderful insight into the lives of Heather, Lloyd, Arlene and Nat. It is easy for the reader to enter their world and empathise with them. There were a few 'big reveals', but even those moments didn't impact me the way I thought it would. I didn't feel a punch in my gut, and my heart never pounded while reading Fable the way I wanted it to.

I’d crossed the Narrows for a man who’d probably never even loved me. For a dream that would never come true." It was her idea about the four kids and the knight because she is really into Arthurian myth, but we both really love real history that can be inspirational and she told me about this book she’d read called Britain’s brown babies by a woman called Lucy Bland. I’m E.L (Emma-Louise) Norry, a 47-year-old woman, mum of two teenagers – 14 yr old girl and 15 yr old boy, and wife. I work part-time as a Wellbeing Coach and Safeguarding Officer at Bournemouth and Poole FE College. I was born in Cardiff and lived there until I was ten. My mum is Jewish and white, and as far as I know, my dad was from the Caribbean. My own, and every woman who is juggling family alongside working and also finding time for her creative passions!I enjoyed reading this. It was so sad and heartbreaking. You just want to jump into the book and then jump into the past and save all those kids!
