Description

The remainder of this article lists the complete selection of AMD Advantage laptops built on the top-tier AMD RX Radeon chips, namely the full-power RX 6850M XT and RX 6800M, as well as the efficient RX 6800S/6700S/6600S hardware meant for ultraportable designs. Mid-tier RX 6700M, 6650M, and 6600M are also included here for the time being, but we’re transitioning those to a separate section in the near future. You can also see that these two new chips are built on AMD’s Zen 3 Plus architecture as opposed to the Zen 3 architecture of the 5000 series. The differences between Zen 3 and Zen 3 Plus aren't substantial, so we won’t retread them (you can read about the differences in the Ryzen 6000 launch explainer), but they are worth noting. The architecture change also means that the 6000 U series comes with improved RDNA 2 graphics as opposed to the previous Radeon Vega solution. On to more demanding loads, we start by testing the CPU’s performance in the Cinebench R15 loop test.

And AMD then has jumped the gun on Intel two times, a) by offering APUs that did offer much better iGPU performance at similr prices (e.g. Kaveri) and b) by allocating iGPU silicon real-estate to CPU cores instead, doubling core vs. Intel at the same process size and price point (Zen 1/2/3). You can also opt for the Whisper mode, with limits the CPU at 12W with now barely audible fans, and temperatures in the high-60s. The laptop performs at about 60% of its abilities on this profile, returning scores of around 1050 points. That’s excellent for such a low-powered profile. GPD Win 4 2023 refresh announced with AMD Ryzen 7040U APUs and OcuLink port » GPD Win 4 is fast, but it's as loud as many gaming laptopsIf interested, over here you’ll also find our review of the 2-in-1 convertible Asus ZenBook S 13 Flip model.

Radeon RX 6600S – designed for 1080p gaming in budget ultraportable products, with a design power of up to 80W. If you want something with a wider variety of ports while still being sleek and slim, the Lenovo Yoga 9i, a 14-inch Intel-based 2-in-1, may be up your alley. But in our testing, it was slightly behind in performance and more expensive when similarly configured. It did, however, have a slightly higher quality OLED display. This is a recent-gen Samsung-made OLED panel, similar to what Asus offers with their 14-inch ultraportables. The only notable difference is the refresh rate, capped at 60 Hz here, while the 14-inchers are available in 90 and even 120 Hz options. It’s not a deal-breaker by any means, but perhaps something you might notice with fast-paced action and games. You might still find these in stores, and with good discounts. Plus, given the differences between Phoenix and Rembrandt are not that significant in real-use, there’s a fair chance you’ll get excellent value for your money in this class. ModelThen we have two Intel chips. First, the Acer Aspire Vero is running an Intel Core i7-1195G7. This is roughly a Ryzen U series equivalent (the G denotes a superior integrated graphics chip but the processing power is in the same tier) and runs up to 28 watts. This is an 11th Generation “Tiger Lake” processor, not Intel’s latest 12th Generation; we have yet to test an Alder Lake U series processor. But these types of G processors are also found in many thinner laptops from the last couple of years, making this comparison plenty relevant if anyone is looking at upgrading. AMD Ryzen 7 7840S platform exclusive to a few Lenovo devices (Yoga Air 14s, Yoga Sim 7), a variation of the 7840U running at 30W of power, with otherwise similar specs and characteristics.
