One year ago, a mystery disease turned anyone over the ages of fourteen and fifteen into voracious zombie-like creatures, and the surviving children have formed a number of groups to better survive and combat the threat. In Holloway, London, a group in a local Waitrose supermarket have begun to grow increasingly frustrated as children are kidnapped and killed by adults, who appear to be becoming smarter. Day 4 - Jordan into town, second meeting, kids move into Victoria and Albert Museum and Westminster Abby.

Paul MacLaren and his older sons succumb to the disease and are killed by Greg Thorne. Paul's youngest son goes catatonic, and Greg kills him and makes him into dried meat. He and Liam then leave the farm. [3] Paul Channing fights with his inner demons and his own hunger as he faces becoming something unspeakable with terrible consequences. Ella - Small Sam's little sister, she looks up to her brother for protection and is commonly shown to miss him. I highly recommend this to those who loves Michael Grant's GONE novels. Both book shares the same elements such as big casts, in-your-face non-stop actions, kids going against each other, alternating perspectives, fast pacings etc. It's fun literature at its best.I literally yelled "OH NASTY!" at that part, it was so revolting. And yet I loved every second of it. :) The others had promised that the countryside would be safer than the city. They were wrong. Now Ella's all-alone except for her silent rescuer, Scarface - and she's not even sure if he's a kid or a grown-up. This brutal, no holds barred punch was filled with gruesome and disgusting detail. No illusions. No mercy. No pulled punches. Honest, bloody slaughter-like style that hit me in all the right places! This is their life now. Some kids could let go of the old life, accept, change and survive in the new brutal way of things. Others could not. Sad, bitter, and heartbreaking one minute—hilarious and hopeful the next. This story clawed at my insides in more ways than one….

Samira - A girl who always wanted to be a doctor so becomes the nurse for the Museum Kids. She has a head scarf. The Enemyis the first book in the Enemy series and the first installment overall. It is written by Charlie Higson, and published by Puffin Books and Disney-Hyperion. The book was officially released in by Puffin Books in Australia and the UK on September 3rd, 2009. Disney-Hyperion released the book in the United States on May 11th, 2010. The students of Rowhurst School are effectively quarantined in the school. Nineteen boys are holed up in School House dormitory. [5] Ten days before the first chapter of The Dead, Matthew Palmer and fourteen other boys hole up in the school chapel. [6] Jester leads a small crew to North London, looking for other survivors to use as an army for David. He brings his friend Shadowman and three other palace kids. Venturing into the unknown streets of North London, the group encounters many surprises as they desperately try to survive. Franny – David's head farmer at the palace. She wears glasses and overalls, and seems to have feelings for David.Wiki and Jibber-jabber try to recruit kids in the Natural History Museum to celebrate World Book Day. [12] This series says it over and over again—we have to work together to survive. It’s a lesson that fit right into my current world.

Achilleus - The best and most skilled fighter in the Waitrose crew. He can be moody and sarcastic, but he is a valuable member of the group because of his fighting skills. He blames Freak for the incident at the pool that cost Deke and Arran their lives. Torchboy - A boy who helps clear out the Serpentine Gallery. He has a flashlight and smoke bombs. In the U.S. version, he is called Flashlight Boy. Well I’ve got a couple of big TV projects on the go. The main one is a big 10-hour fantasy drama series for ITV. If all goes well, it should be on our screens next September. But because it’s early days I can’t actually tell you that much about it sadly.Maxie Maxie* is Arran's second-in-command. She's a plain-looking girl with a no-nonsense attitude, but when things start getting ugly (as they are bound to get in such circumstances) she's strong enough to retain her humanity, even as those around her slip into savagery. Small Sam—Too cute for words, little man! He tiptoed right into my heart with his tenacity and courage! Maxie - One of the main characters in the book. She becomes leader of the Waitrose crew after Arran dies but has trouble staying mentally strong after his death. She becomes a good leader after Ollie privately tells her that he believes that the Waitrose kids need a leader to look up to and make hard decisions, going on to say that he believes Maxie can be perfect for this. Deke – A boy in the Waitrose group. He is Freak's best friend and, before the epidemic, always hung around with him. During the swimming pool episode, Deke dies after suffering a punctured lung from broken vending machine glass, and grown-ups take him away to eat him. Like I mentioned earlier, the narrative technique kept me at a distance for quite some time. It was omniscient to the extreme, bouncing from perspective to perspective constantly. Like, every other paragraph type of constantly. So for a while I felt detached from the characters and couldn't imagine caring about their deaths (BOY WAS I WRONG), but I eventually grew to cherish every small peek into their minds. The characters were pieced together one brief dip into their heads at a time. It was a very interesting way to narrate the story, and one I don't think I've come across before.

Basically, it's about a group of kids living in a supermarket at the end of the world. All the adults have become diseased and ... started ... eating the kids !! and it's hectic.

Keep in touch

Small Sam – A surprisingly brave nine-year-old boy in the Waitrose group, Ella's brother, and a main character in the novel. Early on, he becomes separated from the group after being kidnapped by adults. He escapes and discovers adults who do not seem too affected by the disease, but still eat children. Again, he escapes and meets a new group of children at the Tower of London. He is most likely the main character of the series. The church where the expedition crew is hiding burns down. Ollie rescues Lettis Slingsbury, and the crew and the Twisted Kids return from the expedition. Small Sam and his unlikely ally, The Kid, have survived. They're safe with Ed and his friends at the Tower of London, but Sam is desperate to find his sister. Well I wanted them to be proper horror books. Modern kids are a lot harder to scare and impress there I was because they’ve had access to so more. They’ve watched all those TV series, DVDs and stuff online, so if you’re writing them a scary, gory horror book, they want it to be as intense as the stuff they’ve seen on-screen. It’s very important not to talk down to kids, and to give them something which they think is quite grown-up and hardcore. Kids themselves are very good at self-censoring. If they don’t like something, if they think it’s too strong for them, they’ll simply stop reading. It’s the thing about a book, you can’t force someone to read it. It will leave you exhausted but it will also leave you zombie-hungry for more. I'm effin ready for more bloodfest and in-your-face violence. The Dead, bring it on!
