In Batman: Damned, a 2019 sequel to the graphic novel Joker, Joker and Batman are found to have been fatally injured during the clash on the bridge, plunging into the water below. However, when Batman dies of blood loss, Joker re-emerges from under the bridge, laughing manically (in a scene that mentions the genesis of the character in The Killing Joke).

The Joker has been released from Arkham (for some stupid reason) and Johnny Frost has chosen to be his flunky. Frost walks down a dark path of madness and horror as he learns just what it means to work for the Joker. Azzarello's Joker is awesome!

This graphic novel provides examples of:

Still, within these basic parameters there is plenty of room to play. For example, Croc was probably the most exaggerated of the villains, but his skin condition is something that actually really exists so although his appearance is fairly extreme, you can actually find a real world explanation. Most of the time he seems to be portrayed as some kind of huge monster. Our Croc is more monstrous in his actions given that he pretty much helps dispose of bodies in... uhhhh... interesting ways. Only Sane Man: Deconstructed with Jonny. Joker admits that he keeps him around because Jonny's more down to earth than he is, but the book goes out of its way to just how absurd it is for a sane man to be around these people.

It takes me about two years to do these projects, more or less. It was the same for the Luthor project, and that mini-series really took it out of me. Brian has talked plenty about how we had no interest in working together and it was pretty true. We had both decided to move on do other things, but the discussion we had about the Joker really intrigued me. I already had an idea of how I wanted to interpret the character, even while Brian and I were still working on Lex. In fact, if you look closely at the newspaper Lex is reading in issue #3, there is a photo of my Joker there! When the timing and opportunity to finally do it came up, it just seemed like the logical choice. Interview With Writer Brian Azzarello - The 100 Bullets author sits down with Dan Phillips to talk about developing this project. Does a book focusing on the Joker fundamentally change how you might approach a similar Batman-based project? Bermejo: I see it as a big danger to make everything homogenous no matter what situation. I think that comics can do things movies can't and vice versa. In my opinion, you only expose their weaknesses if you try too hard at making one exactly like the other. Joker may have some cinematic elements, but we certainly never set out to do a "film-esque" comic. It very much plays (I hope) to the strength of the comic medium, which is that it tries to control the way you read it and the speed at which you read and react to certain scenes with a combination of text and art. I've seen a lot of artists attempt to do 'widescreen storytelling', some of them with great results, but ultimately they're still just carefully controlling what you see and how you read it. It may be considered more cinematic but it's still just using the comic book formula to a particular end. Post-Rape Taunt: After raping Shelly, the Joker says to Jonny that it makes them even for Jonny withholding information.

Silent Antagonist: Harley Quinn doesn't get a single line despite doing some thoroughly awesome stuff. Includes the Wonder Woman short story (co-written by Azzarello and Cliff Chiang, art by Goran Sudžuka) from Secret Origins vol. 3 #6 (anthology, 2014)

Bodyguard Babes: In this story, Harley Quinn serves this role to the Joker. She's never seen speaking on panel, though presumably she can, Jonny just doesn't notice it. Waters, Tom (December 1, 2006). "Rapid Fire With Brian Azzarello". Acid Logic. Archived from the original on June 22, 2013 . Retrieved August 14, 2013. Meaningful Name: Possibly just a coincidence, but the name Jonny Frost is sort of similar to Joe Chill, the man who gunned down Batman's parents. Batman: Soul of the Dragon: Nāga | Kobra ( Jeffery Burr, Schlangenfaust, Lady Eve, King Snake& Rip Jagger) | Ben Turner | Shiva | Richard Dragon | Jade Excuse Plot: How did the Joker manage to be released from Arkham? It's never explained and the Joker refuses to say, but it doesn't matter. The rest of the comic acts as a character study of the Joker from the perspective of an outsider, even if there is a story.

Thematic Series: The story is a companion piece to Azzarello and Bermejo's earlier Lex Luthor: Man of Steel (later rereleased in a collected edition under the title Luthor, to reinforce the connection): Azzarello and Risso won the 2001 Eisner Award for Best Serialized Story in 100 Bullets #15–18: "Hang Up on the Hang Low". [28] Influences [ edit ] Bermejo: Definitely a coincidence. I certainly don't want to take anything away from Nolan or Ledger, they did something spectacular and iconic with the character, but the reality of this particular situation is simple: Brian and I were already well into this graphic novel when they released the first photo of Ledger. In fact, I was drawing the sequence where Joker walks into the Italian restaurant. I admit, I freaked out when I saw the photo. I immediately called Brian, and I remember he was like, "It doesn't really look anything like your Joker." I still feel like all they really have in common is the carved smile. What about the joker frightening the hell out of Penguin and Harvey Dent? no one holds a candle to the joker because he is unexpected he is totally nuts and you never know what he will do ! a b Mowatt, Raoul V.
