About this deal

he knows that a desolate future awaits him if he doesn't leave. he's not a fool. but his heart overflows with so much love for his country he's willing to let it drown him and his loved ones. Kengerian demi kengerian yang ia temui setiap hari di rumah sakit membuat kondisi mentalnya semakin terpuruk. Belum lagi dengan fakta Salama sebenarnya juga adalah korban dari krisis kemanusiaan yang melihat dengan mata kepalanya sendiri tubuh ibunya termutilasi akibat serangan udara dan ayah serta kakak laki-lakinya dibawa paksa oleh pasukan militer Assad untuk disiksa di penjara. love how she taught salama that there is more to life than fear. that hope and faith is enough to have happiness and love. love how she always reminded her that her life is also important and that she doesn't have to stop living and loving. Whatever happens tomorrow, we’ll be okay. Even if…” He takes in a deep breath and presses his forehead against mine. “Know that even in death, you’re my life.” One of my only criticisms of As Long As the Lemon Trees Grow is that it’s classified as a young-adult book. This, to me… is a tough sell as a YA book, and I would give an As Long As the Lemon Trees Grow age rating at 16+ at least. It has a lot of trigger warnings: death, war, graphic child murder, sexual assault, extremely dense PTSD, and psychological conversations. Maybe kids are just tougher these days than I was as a young adult, and I think it is essential for youth to be aware of what’s going on in the world, but it is pretty heavy for a YA book, in my opinion.

This is an important book. Penulis berdarah Suriah ini sukses menyihir banyak orang di seluruh dunia lewat novel debutnya As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow. This book is soul-crashing and heart-shattering and it's so beautiful in its unique sadness that will grip you and make you live with the characters, taking breaths with them and rooting for their happiness while suffering their drama with each of your heartbeats. Salama ahh salama she was so strong and loyal to her family and to her patients and to her country. It was so hard being in her mind sometimes. The guilt and the fear and sadness was to much. She wasn't perfect she made mistakes horrible ones but she's only human and the fear and desperate need to survive will make u do anything. I understand and I love her with my whole heart <33 In the book Ghibli is a recurring theme and its influences show beautifully through Zoulfa's writing (romanticizing the small things etc) Several men stand outside the supermarket, their faces gaunt and marked with malnourishment but their eyes sparkling with light. When I pass by, I hear bits of their conversation, but I don’t linger. I know what they’re talking about. It’s what everyone has been talking about for the past nine months.

The As Long As the Lemon Trees Grow ending was intense, and obviously, I won’t spoil it here, but the book had me guessing until the last sentence. It’s a fairly long book, and I finished it in a matter of days, which is rare for me. Conclusion But even with Khawf pressing her to leave, Salama is torn between her loyalty to her country and her conviction to survive. Salama must contend with bullets and bombs, military assaults, and her shifting sense of morality before she might finally breathe free. And when she crosses paths with the boy she was supposed to meet one fateful day, she starts to doubt her resolve in leaving home at all. Empires have collapsed throughout history. They rise, they build and they fall. Nothing lasts forever. Not even our pain.”Ia kemudian melanjutkan, “Orang-orang berlalu begitu saja saat kamu berdarah dan kesakitan, mereka mengabaikanmu atau tidak dapat mendengarmu atau tidak mengakui keberadaanmu karena sudah terlalu banyak kengerian yang mereka alami.” At the same time, the author tries to destroy the stereotypes that seem to constantly be associated with the Muslim culture: her heroines are free and brave and unafraid to express themselves and dream big while also, yes, they wear hijabs. Because guess what? Wearing a hijab doesn't stop them from being free to express themselves. But Katouh did not do that. She illustrated her characters’ personalities in very practical and poignant ways. As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow as YA fiction?
