While belt drives are possible, a chain is a cheap, easy way to get power to the wheels. If you’re using lawnmower parts, just reuse the chain and gears. You’ll find that you can mix and match gears sourced from junk mowers to change ratios if necessary. Because of the Direct Drive system on this go-kart, it makes for super easy pedalling and fast acceleration. Math Skills: When you’re swapping pulley ratios, figuring out speeds, or looking at linkage ratios—for example, 3 inches of brake pedal travel to 1 inch of band linkage—your kids will hopefully learn some engineering math.
