Description

After all players have made their case, players now vote on who they think the liar was. The “informer” does not participate in the vote. Starting with the player to their left, players go one by one putting their magnifying glass on the board of the player they think is the liar

When it comes to games where one player doesn’t know something, Detective Club feels a bit different. In many other games, you can ask, or draw, anything in the world. So not knowing the information makes it pretty difficult to hide that fact. But with Detective Club you have to play two of your six cards, so potentially you aren’t going to be able to make it obvious you do, or don’t, know the information. If there is o or 1 Token on the Conspirator's Player Marker, then the Conspirator scores 5 VP and the Active Player scores 4 VP. Detective Club" once again opens its doors for new members. You are also invited, but first you must prove yourself as a real detective.

Components

If there is a tie, tied player with greater amount of victory point tokens wins, if still tied, all tied players share victory. Once again, thank you for being a part of Board Game Atlas. We will always cherish the memories, connections, and excitement for board gaming that this community has fostered. Example: Bill and Dustin think that Jane is the Conspirator because she was unable to explain her cards clearly. Bill places her Voting Token next to Jane's Player Marker. She in return, votes against Bill, hoping that Dustin will make a wrong choice. After everyone has played their cards, the “informer” announces what the clue was. Starting with the player to their left, they need to explain to everyone how their cards match the clue, proving of coarse that they knew the clue. You will need to lie or stretch as necessary. Once all players have played a card, the Active Player plays a second card, and so on until everyone played two cards.

Ultimately, Detective Club is a fun experience. While comparing it to other games may not be entirely fair, I think there is probably only room for so many similar games in any person’s collection. It just feels a bit more relaxed. If you don’t like the stress of being put on the spot, that can certainly be a good thing. The discussion about why you chose the cards can be hilarious and is really where Detective Club shines. Example: Mike is the Active Player. He wants to play with the word "nature". He places the card displaying a red rose to reflect that word. The game comes in a tin, which many people don’t like. I personally don’t mind tins. However, the artwork on the lid doesn’t really suggest the fun, party-game style of play that you get from the game. This may deter people. If anything the artwork and title would lead you to believe the game is more of a crime solving co-op. The liar is revealed and victory points are given out based on the following – (1) Each detective who placed their voting on the liar’s board gets 3 VP | (2) If there are 0 – 1 markers on the liar’s board, they get 5 VPS and the Informer gets 4 VPS | (3) If there are 2 or more player markers on the liar’s board, they and the informer get no points. Make sure than everyone agrees on the chosen topic. You can switch topic after a few rounds if you like, or try to play the whole game with the same topic! Alternatively, you might be the conspirator and get away with it because you happened to have cards that fit the theme perfectly. Or you're just an amazing liar.

Starting with the active player (“informant”) players play one card at a time that corresponds with that clue. If they do not have any good cards, they need to just do your best. If you are the one who doesn’t know the clue, you just need to do your best with what you see. This process goes around the circle twice so everyone will have played a total of two cards. Place them above the “I” and “II” symbols on your board respectively.

Delivery options

The game ends when each player has been the informer once (6 – 8 players) or twice (under 6 players). See, learning how to play Detective Club is easy.
