Description

Delivers a powerful energy boost with 40g of carbohydrate per 66g gel, providing double the energy of a standard OTE Energy Gel. Consuming too much carbohydrate means it'll be surplus and go to waste – however, some manufacturers mix their glucose with fructose (fruit sugar) – and research has shown that this can increase absorption to 90g an hour.

Taste: As always, we’ve used natural flavouring the bring you this delicious Tropical flavour; thus, comes from real fruit juice concentrate. It’s easy to use and consume, developed with the athlete in mind.

HIGH5 Energy Gel Aqua Caffeine (20 x 66g)

Certainly the texture of the gel seems to be designed to go down easily. With a fluid consistency, we found they're well suited to high-intensity efforts, and real fruit juices provide tasty flavors without putting too much stress on your gut.

OTE Sports are the official nutrition partners of triathlon legends Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, British Triathlon Federation and NTT Pro Cycling. Energy requirements vary between individuals, increasing with intensity. The general rule of thumb is to feed yourself with one gram of carbohydrate per kilo of body weight, each hour – so a 60 kilogram individual should aim for 60 grams an hour, while an 80kg rider would need around 80g. The consistency or texture is listed by Torq as 'wet'. Even still it recommends that the gels are used in conjunction with its energy drinks. If you prefer a gel that can be used in isolation then the SIS GO product could well be a better option. However, with regards to a carbs-to-weight ratio, the Torq gel does deliver a pretty big punch.

BeElite Energy Gels (20 x 38g)

Natural Flavors: OTE prioritizes the use of natural ingredients, and the Super Gel is no exception. The delicious taste comes from real fruit juice concentrate, providing a refreshing and authentic flavor experience. Designed with athletes in mind, this gel is not only effective but also enjoyable to consume. The flip side is that they're harder to ingest, as you need to chew them as you ride. They're a lot easier to chew than an energy bar though in our experience and can be consumed "on the side" more easily as you ride, although as with a bar you probably need some water to wash them down. Those with sensitive stomachs might also prefer to take on solids – such as energy chews or bars – which can also provide some welcome variety in texture and flavour and so work well if running for long periods of time. McGregor recommends consuming 30-60g of carbs per hour for the first three hours of running, increasing to 60-90g of carbs per hour if you’re still going after that. This can be in the form of gels, drinks or solids.
