Description

There are a number of drive modes available on the Canon EOS 200D / SL2. These include Single Shot, Continuous Shooting, Self-timer and Remote Controlled Shooting. In Continuous Shooting mode, the camera can take pictures at a speed of 5fps for up to an unlimited number Large Fine JPEGs or 6 Raw files. Canon’s EOS 200D, or Rebel SL2 as it’s known in North America, is a compact DSLR aimed at photographers buying their first interchangeable lens camera. Announced in June 2017, it replaces the four-year-old EOS 100D / SL1, and like that model offers a more sophisticated point-of-entry than the cheapest DSLRs and a smaller body to boot.

In case you are wondering which of these cameras you should buy, then this is the right place to find an answer. Here you will find listed all the main differences among Canon EOS 200D and Canon EOS 2000D, calculated by the CameraRace iCamRank algorithm. The flash settings on the Canon EOS 200D are Auto, Manual Flash On/Off, and Red-Eye Reduction. These shots of a white coloured wall were taken at a distance of 1m. In front of the mode dial there is also a new display button beside the ISO button to switch the screen off when it’s not being used and preserve battery life. Both the ISO and DISP buttons are fairly spongy, though, and need to be depressed quite a way before they do anything. Ahead of these you get a knurled scroll dial and the shutter button, which is no longer surrounded by the same rubberised material as the EOS 100D’s handgrip. Strictly comparing the SL2 and D3400 you'll see that they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. While there are 'little things' like the type of LCD, viewfinder size and wireless functionality, live view autofocus is the main differentiator. It's simply no contest there with the SL2's AF system blowing away the D3400 in live view and movie mode.

Comments

The EOS 200D / Rebel SL2 is equipped with Wifi, NFC and Bluetooth, all representing a big upgrade over the original EOS 100D / SL1 which had no wireless connectivity at all. There’s no shortage of fine detail in the centre of this wide-angle shot, and only a slight fall-off of focus towards the edges (1/160s, f/9, ISO 100, 29mm equivalent)

Highlight Tone Priority is a custom function which can be enabled from the menu. Use of this custom function improves highlight detail by expanding the camera's dynamic range in the highlights. As you can see from these examples, Highlight Tone Priority reduced the extent of highlight blow-out considerably. I’ll concentrate on the smartphone and computer remote control here, starting with the former and the latest Camera Connect app which must first be installed on your handset. I tested the Android version 2.0.40.38 (build 593) on my Samsung Galaxy S7. To even begin to try you'd have to turn off the mirrorless camera every time you took a picture. How convenient. Not!A rubber eye cup helps cushion the viewfinder against your eye and there is dioptre control to adjust it to your eyesight. Canon EOS 200D – Autofocus As for the build quality of the EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens that comes with the camera as part of the basic kit, it’s about as good as one would expect for a kit lens that’s designed to get you started. It doesn’t have a metal mount and isn’t the retractable type, but its optical image stabiliser is effective at keeping handheld shots free of handshake and it doesn’t add much bulk to the camera.

Canon wants you to make the most of the camera, so helps you explore the options in each mode with a handy on-screen guided interface. It’s all operated by touch, but to prevent unwanted adjustments, you’ll first need to enter the Q menu either by pressing the SET button on the rear, or by tapping the Q icon on-screen; try tapping anywhere else on-screen and you’ll be instructed to tap the Q icon first. Once you’ve entered the Q menu, the screen is split into an upper and lower section. In the upper section you’ll see the more graphical options like sliders to adjust the key settings, while in the lower half you can tap a number of smaller panels to adjust things like the drive and AF modes. The Canon EOS 200D is an interesting small-scale DSLR, designed for beginners, yet comprehensive enough for photo enthusiasts too. It arrives at a time when mirrorless models - such as Canon's own EOS M6 - are arguably the more prolific cameras to buy, thanks to speedy screen-based or viewfinder-based autofocus. Person A is always going around to convince person B that person A's system is better because in reality person A really doesn't believe their system is better. The 200D uses the same sensor and DIGIC 7 processor as the Canon EOS 800D so it’s no surprise that their image quality and performance are hard to separate. The 200D captured a shot every 0.3 seconds when using the viewfinder, and between 0.3 and 0.9 seconds in live view mode.

Product Images

All of the sample images in this review were taken using the 24 megapixel Fine JPEG setting, which gives an average image size of around 7Mb. First time incorporated into an EOS DSLR, Creative Assist and smooth skin feature would allow you to achieve desired effects on your photos and easily take picture perfect selfies. Stay connected to the camera with the Low energy Bluetooth connection and send images to your mobile devices as you shoot for ease of sharing. Technically speaking, Canon EOS 200D is superior to Canon EOS 2000D, with an overall iCamRank score of 58 and 50, respectively.
