About this deal

If you’re not using it too much, you’ll get closer to two days, but you’ll need to turn on the power-saving mode to stretch it that far. On test, with the phone at 80%, the handset estimated we would get one day and 12 hours by turning on the saver. It works very well with a largely polished finish that allows you to reply to incoming texts and WhatsApp messages using preset replies and emoji, though I’d like to see a bit more done with the external display in future, whether that’s app-specific widgets for apps like Google Maps or Spotify, or even simpler additions like the ability to access Google Assistant from the cover display. I bring 12 years of industry experience to my role as Senior Phones Editor here at TechRadar. With a focus on phones, tablets and wearables in the consumer space, I'm well versed in what the market has to offer and how to assess a device like the Oppo Find N2 Flip, having also been the one to review its most obvious rivals, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Motorola Razr 2022, as well as its sibling, the standard Oppo Find N2. As for the viewing experience, the 6.8-inch 20:9 Full HD+ panel's use of LTPO E6 AMOLED tech ensures sharp and vibrant visuals, with minimal brightness drop-off or color distortion when viewed off-axis, as well as support for a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, for greater power efficiency than a fixed-refresh rate panel.

Fire up the camera on the Find N2 Flip and you’ll have the choice of using two lenses: a 50 megapixel (MP) wide, and an 8MP ultrawide. Unsurprisingly, it’s the primary lens that shoots the best pictures out of the two. While testing on the wet streets of London, we found it accurately captures the rain-soaked pavements, and there was more than enough detail in the shot when viewed on the phone’s display. The ultrawide was significantly less impressive during our tests, with the results being a little more washed out and pixelated when zoomed in. After folding the phone for 24 hours, Find N2 Flip is able to stand on its own when unfolded at any angle between 45-110 degrees. The angle may vary depending on differences in phone usage time or individual devices.

Data Safety Section

It’s not quite a two-day device though; without an overnight charge, I found that the phone would run out of charge fairly early the next day.

The display is plenty bright at a maximum of 1600 nits (when watching HDR content) though the plastic-y finish of the foldable display means that it’s a fingerprint magnet and this is really highlighted when using the phone in bright daylight. It’s easy to wipe, but it’s still an inconvenience. Cameras The largest battery and fastest charging in a clamshell foldable. Oppo's claims held up to testing too. It's a similar story with charging speeds, too, with the Samsung, Motorola and Huawei supporting 25W, 30W and 40W wired charging, respectively. The Find N2 Flip, meanwhile, tops the list at 44W (although you'll find a 67W SuperVOOC charger in-box).Part of the phone's Flexion Hinge is an equally flamboyant-sounding element called the Reticular Matrix Plate. When the phone is closed, the plate slides out of the way to allow the display itself to bunch up inside in a waterdrop shape – similar to the Motorola Razr 2022's folding design. However, it’s the internal display really is where the Oppo Find N2 Flip stands head and shoulders above the rest of the clamshell foldable competition. It is not recommended to record videos continuously for a long time, which may cause experience problems. Based on tests performed in OPPO labs (35℃), Find N2 Flip can record videos continuously for about 25 minutes. Unlike Google or Apple phones, there’s not as much fancy AI tech working behind the scenes, either. You can’t delete unwanted subjects from the pictures, access crisp close-ups with a macro lens or steady shaky recordings with an action mode. This is very much a point-and-shoot system. While it’s not a remarkable setup, your pictures are crisp and clear, and we like the “dual preview” mode that takes advantage of the front screen to show your subject how they look before you hit the shutter. Benchmarks placed it just where I'd expected it, on or a fraction behind equivalent Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1-powered phones, without leaning on the phone's high-performance mode – hidden away in the settings so as not to inadvertently besmirch the good name of the phone's promised (as realized) long battery life.

The big cover screen on the outside is handy, but feels under-utilised, with limits on what you can do with it. The general software needs polishing for this premium price, too. The camera is fine, but not up to the same standard as you would find on similarly priced phones. There is certainly room for improvement. The 32MP selfie camera is pretty good as these things go, but you also have the option of shooting using the main camera with the phone closed, which works well.As you might expect, that translates to true all-day battery life split across the cover and main displays. I usually take it off charge at around 8am and I’ll use it throughout the day to send WhatsApp messages, take the occasional photo, stream videos on TikTok and listen to music on YouTube Music, before getting to bed at around midnight with 20-30% charge left most evenings. Colors aside, there's only one configuration of the Find N2 Flip to worry about internationally, with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage on hand, which most users should find more than adequate. In China, the phone can be had with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Oppo's Peter Lee – head of the Find product line – told me that this is born out of higher demands that Chinese consumers expect from their devices. The Oppo Find N2 Flip has proven that good folding phones aren’t just the domain of the market leader Samsung and can be made for closer to mainstream prices. You can't evaluate a foldable without talking about the hinge mechanism that underpins its construction and Oppo's done a great job with the Find N2 Flip. The phone's latest-generation 'Flexion Hinge' features a system of cams to serve up an incredibly satisfying movement when you fold the phone open and shut, and the whole construction feels impressively solid. Oppo had the hinge independently tested and, as such, it's verified by TÜV Rhineland to withstand some 400,000 cycles (opening once and closing once equates to one cycle). This translates to 100 cycles per day for over ten years – that's twice the stress-test figure that Samsung quotes for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4.
