Risk: The Lord of the Rings: Gondor & Mordor Expansion Set (2003) – Extension to Risk: The Lord of the Rings, also includes a 2-player Siege of Minas Tirith mini-game. Players then take turns to move their characters (taking into account their special abilities) and combat is resolved when they clash. Extra combat cards are then played by players – they are either text cards or strength cards. The text is resolved first. If that doesn’t give the winner, then the strengths of characters and strength cards are compared. The weaker character is removed from the game (if there’s a tie, both die). A licensed iOS app, Risk: The Official Game, developed for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad by Electronic Arts, was released on July 16, 2010. [45] Although the iPad version ( Risk HD) has to be bought separately from the iPhone version ( Risk), local link up allows games to take place across versions. A maximum of six players can participate. If only one iOS device is available, the "pass and play" mode allows several players to take part in a multi-player game.

In, combat several elements are taken into consideration. Both sides can play cards to give them a special ability. Then a maximum of 5 dice is rolled for each army, according to the army’s strength. Every 5 or 6 is a hit and a damage token is placed on an army for each hit. If you get more damage tokens than there are units in your army, you must remove some (1 unit for every 2 tokens of damage). Like rewatching the Extended Trilogy, War of the Ring isn’t short - expect to spend at least a handful of hours playing, and longer if you’re new - but it’s worth the time and effort it demands. If there’s one Lord of the Rings game to rule them all, this is probably it. Before attempting to move the Fellowship, the current player must roll one die. If the result is 4 or more, the Fellowship may continue, if the roll is 3 or less, the Fellowship must stay there until the next player attempts to move them out with a roll of the die as before. Sauron, on the other hand, relies on spreading evil, corrupting heroes, overthrowing nations, and so on. His gameplay is quite challenging, especially if all three heroes are in play. RecapGuide your forces to victory in the ultimate battle! The Risk: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Edition board game features content from the entire The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The game includes Territory cards, Adventure cards, Battalions, and a gold tone ring. The gameboard features a complete map of Middle-earth including Gondor, Mordor, and Haradwaith Territories. The extensive instruction booklet features several ways to play this strategy game for 2-4 players. It makes a great holiday gift or birthday gift for kids ages 10 and up.

Games magazine included Risk in their "Top 100 Games of 1981", noting that an advantage of the game is that "it's easy to make up new variations, tailored to your tastes". [50] Scenarios are, of course, Lord of the Rings flavored with all its iconic glories: from narrative to heroes like Aragorn or Gimli, allies like Gandalf, locations like Mirkwood, enemies like orcs or Nazgul. The atmosphere along with the art is very immersive and you’ll feel Middle-earth coming alive around you.Points for each region that is completely control. Points are equal to the battalion bonus of each region. Inspired by the War of the Ring (scroll further down), it too revolves around the conflict between Sauron and the Free people, with obvious goals. The destruction of the Ring, or by winning militarily as Sauron. How is War of the Ring: The Card Game played? Travel across Middle-Earth in an app-powered adventure Journeys in Middle-Earth offers a light roleplaying experience, guided by a companion app. Taking its miniature designs directly from the Lord of the Rings - and later, The Hobbit - films, the Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game also draws heavily from the older Warhammer Fantasy Battle rules. Players control the forces of Middle-Earth, typically divided into the Free Peoples (that’s elves, dwarves, Gondor and Rohan and so on) and Sauron’s minions, as they clash over battlefields in the fantasy world.

After all players have placed all their battalions, you must place one Leader in a territory you control. In "Team Risk", the teams work together and either win or lose as a team. This is the version that can end in the very first turn and it receives much criticism for that fact (setup can take up to an hour with first-time players and then the game could end in 5 minutes). Fans of the Lord of the Rings franchise who are less interested in the mechanics of Standard Risk will likely enjoy this version the most because it more closely resembles the strategies of the forces of Middle Earth. In this version, the Fellowship path is the most important factor and must be cherished by both good and evil as their main priorities. At the end of each turn, if the Ring is in a territory controlled by evil, they have a chance to find the ring and win the game; roll two dice, add 1 if there's a leader in the same territory, add 1 if evil controls the entire region, if there's a leader and evil owns the entire region add 2 (the rules are ambiguous about whether this is intended to allow a max bonus of 2 or 4), if the total including bonuses equals or exceeds 12, the One Ring is found and evil wins. As the Ring progresses closer to Mount Doom, the regions where the Ring has been are no longer as important and the regions where it will be (especially Mordor) will become the most important areas of the game. Points do not matter in this version, only total destruction of the enemy or the fate of the One Ring will determine the winner of "Team Risk".The living card game has been expanded by a number of expansions and even a revised core set over the years, resulting in an enormous wealth of adventures and customisation for players to dive into, spanning both familiar faces and locations from Tolkien’s books and brand new content original to the game. Designer Reiner Knizia’s The Lord of the Rings isn’t just notable for being one of the best board games based on Tolkien’s books out there. It also marked a seminal moment for co-op board gaming as a whole, arriving almost a full decade before Pandemic sparked the modern trend of games where players could collaborate rather than compete. Hunt for the Ring takes a unique approach to Tolkien’s stories, foregoing epic battles and exploration of Middle-Earth for a tight, tense game of hide and seek. One player controls Frodo, who must sneak his way across the board without being detected by the other player’s Nazgul.
