About this deal

Being such a small set there aren’t numbers on the bags but there are three of them in total and an instruction manual, which again is nice and small, perfect to slip into the box. Good review! It's definitely charming and a beautiful match for nostalgic vibes of the Modular Buildings Collection. The only other set I remember with old-school curved fenders like this was 70911, and needless to say that was at a far more exaggerated scale! It's a great demonstration of how useful the 1x3 inverted arch can be for automotive detailing. As design standards have continued to change and evolve — such as with molded wheel arches and curved elements becoming more ubiquitous on LEGO vehicles — the practicality of those traditional door pieces has diminished further and further. The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author. Box and Contents

Whilst building. The set you obviously see what goes into its construction and the hidden details you may not see or even find from just looking at it.The star of the show is obviously the Vintage Taxi itself. The parts are all fairly common, but the titanium-metallic front grill has had only one other appearance, in 76180: Batman vs. The Joker: Batmobile Chase. You can see more photos and details on their review but the 163-piece set comes with an old-school taxi, a street section, and what looks like the Doughnut Thief, who you may recall from the 2020 Police Station Modular, who seems to have cleaned up his ways and has made a career change from illicit sugary treats/news publishing to transportation. The single minifigure included in this set doesn’t have any unique pieces, but the combination is new, making him one of those “somewhat exclusive” characters. His head has had 11 other appearances across many themes. (In fact, this is the clone of the chef from the 10260 Downtown Diner.) Vintage Car has nothing to do with the Modular line besides timing. That was an Ideas contest. You did miss the pink car, though. And that was for Amelia Earhart - an excellent set (also, more parts at a lower spending threshold)

Get rid of that silly art gallery which also made no sense (a full art gallery modular would have been much better, and could have included some more Lego versions of famous art, like the Mona Lisa for example). Either that or he’s using this as a front to deliver doughnuts to high-flying guests staying at the Boutique Hotel. As is usual for minifig-scale cars nowadays there are no doors, so access to the interior is by removing the roof.

Under the bonnet you’ll find a very basic motor, using a 2×2 moulded engine element, it’s a very nice touch and one that LEGO didn’t really to include but glad they did. The other is the somewhat hidden boot/trunk inside the Taxi itself, located just behind the passenger seat. The included suitcase fits perfectly in this space and happily rests in place secured by the use of a 1×2 yellow cheese slope. It features a very simple signpost that resembles the colours of a traditional Taxi, yellow and orange, its a great addition to the base and gives it that extra little something. Alongside that is a green rubbish bin, inside you’ll find one of the relatively new ‘ poop‘ pieces, officially known as a Swirl, I can only guess that this particular bin is for Dog waste! In addition, the vehicle includes no fewer than five exclusive printed parts! The number plates allude to 76269 Avengers Tower and their flame yellowish orange colour matches the 'Empire Gold' plates found on many New York taxis. The designs on either side look appealing as well, complete with the same waving minifigure logo featured on the taxi in 76178 Daily Bugle. There's not much to find fault with other than that it's a shame that it does not come with both driver and passenger minifigs. No official minifig taxi has ever had space for more than one passenger, at this scale I don't think more than that would be feasible. It's a shame there are big gaps in the floor though, but I suppose that if a plate was put in to conceal them there wouldn't be enough clearance between the driver's head and the windscreen?"

Having a portion of the pavement is a nice bonus although it does stand a little proud of the LEGO Modu baseplates. Maybe a MOC could remedy this and somehow build the Taxi rank into the Boutique Hotels walkway? From building the character, standing him at the Taxi rank, hailing a Cab, popping him inside and driving off, it’s great fun even for a thirty-something AFOL ( Adult Fan of LEGO) like me!The vehicle looks sleek, streamlined and luxurious: in fact, far too good for use as a taxi: it's more like a limousine. The prominent curved wheel arches front and rear give it the appearance of a typical luxury 1930s car like a Rolls Royce Phantom or Citroen Traction Avant Case in point: look at the van designs from 1687 or 6345. Both still use the old 1x3 vehicle doors, but because of the shape and size of the windscreen, the minifigure can't possibly exit the vehicle via the side doors, only by lifting the roof!

Regarding the 60312 police interceptor, my dad was a gearhead growing up in Detroit, and sometimes mentions that there was a car shop on Woodward Ave that could modify your car so even the cops couldn’t catch it. And then the cops took their cars to the same shop. His dual-sided torso has also had numerous previous incarnations, including being spotted in the 10264 Corner Garage, where another one of his clones works as a mechanic. In my review of the minifigures from 76269 Avengers Tower, I mentioned the need for civilians requiring rescue. An unnamed Taxi Driver fulfils the role nicely and features some interesting pieces, as this torso has only appeared once before, in 76405 Hogwarts Express - Collectors' Edition. Moreover, the sand blue jeans look good and the minifigures comes with a coffee cup, as well as a printed slice of pizza, returning from 10312 Jazz Club. Thank you for reading through our review of the LEGO Vintage Taxi (40532) set, we hope you e joyed it as much as we did.
