Foundation and Empire saw multiple publications—it also appeared in 1955 as Ace Double (but not actually paired with another book) D-125 under the title The Man Who Upset the Universe. The stories composing this volume were originally published in Astounding Magazine (with different titles) in 1945. Foundation and Empire was the second book in the Foundation trilogy. Decades later, Asimov wrote two further sequel novels and two prequels. Later writers have added authorized, and unauthorized, tales to the series. As part of telling a mostly new story, it also seems like we’d be getting a new cast. Goyer told Polygon that creating new characters who fans love is an important part of every season to him, especially after the success of characters like Constant, Hober, and Bel. So we can expect new characters next season — if and when it arrives. One more novel needs to be appended to these lists. Donald M. Kingsbury wrote, with the permission of the Asimov estate, a novel wich takes place in the new/Second Foundation Empire. The book is called Psychohistorical Crisis. Foundation and Empire is composed of two stories: "The General" and "The Mule". The former was first published in the April 1945 issue of Astounding Science Fiction under the title "Dead Hand", while the latter was first published in the November and December 1945 issues of the same magazine. After Eto Demerzel (Laura Birn) killed Dawn’s current (or, rather, previous) incarnation due to the genetic differences that made him an impure clone, it’s revealed all of Cleon’s clones are genetically unique. An anti-Empire resistance group, which included Dawn’s ex-lover Azura, had tampered with the DNA of Cleon I’s host body decades earlier, meaning none of the Empire’s current rulers are identical clones of Cleon I.two stories, originally published in 1945. This book was originally published with the title 'The Man Who Upset the Universe' as a 35c Bel Riose, the last strong general who attempted to capture the Foundation. (Image credit: Apple TV Plus) In the fourth book in the series, Foundation's Edge, Asimov writes that the Mule had been a rogue member of the planet/society Gaia. They return to the Foundation and Siwenna becomes the first planet to leave the jurisdiction of the Empire and become a Foundation-controlled planet. Barr talks with Sennet Forell on Terminus, explaining to him that, given the Empire's state of decay, any combination of General and Emperor was bound to fail, as no Emperor could afford being dethroned by a General too successful and popular, nor risk leading a campaign himself and leave Trantor while his rivals plotted his demise. He brings up the Second Foundation but Forell dismisses him. Forell appears content that there are no further barriers to expansion under the current model, but is debated by Devers, who unexpectedly brings up internal enemies who might not want so much wealth to leave the hands of those who work for it. The story ends with Forell realizing the meaning of Devers' words and the two staring at one another in simmering rage. Holt McCallany( Mindhunter) as Warden Jaegger Fount, the current Warden of Terminus and guardian of its citizens against external threats Meanwhile, Stor Gendibal, a prominent member of the Second Foundation, discovers a simple local on Trantor who has had a very subtle alteration made to her mind, far more delicate than anything the Second Foundation can do. He concludes that a greater force of Mentalics must be active in the Galaxy. Following the events on Terminus, Gendibal endeavors to follow Trevize, reasoning that by doing so, he may find out who has altered the mind of the Trantor native.

Prelude to Foundation opens on the planet Trantor, the empire's capital planet, the day after Hari Seldon has given a speech at a mathematics conference. Several parties become aware of the content of his speech (that using mathematical formulas, it may be possible to predict the future course of human history). Seldon is hounded by the Emperor and various employed thugs who are working surreptitiously, which forces him into exile. Over the course of the book, Seldon and Dors Venabili, a female companion and professor of history, are taken from location to location by Chetter Hummin who, under the guise of a reporter, introduces them to various Trantorian walks of life in his attempts to keep Seldon hidden from the Emperor. The demise of the Empire's remnant on Trantor is told in "Trantor Falls" by Harry Turtledove in Foundation's Friends, a tribute collection.
