Description

They had come to symbolise not only their own savage natures but their spiritual connection to cold death itself.

These two creatures were beasts of prodigious size, formidable intelligence and a physical power that beggared belief in purely "natural" creatures of their type. The guardians of the Wolf King's hearth, from time to time when he called they followed alongside him into battle, becoming a potent symbol to the Space Wolves. From a Fenrisian perspective, prospective candidates are mainly chosen from young warriors who fall in battle with grievous wounds, or perform prodigious feats of arms. These youths are taken from their tribes, and their wounds are treated if necessary, and taken to The Fang to train as Aspirants in camps scattered around Asaheim. Apart from the aspirants, the only normal permanent human inhabitants of Asaheim are the Kaerls, the Space Wolves' Chapter Serfs, who also serve as the planet's Defence Force. [Needs Citation] Tribes The scratches and chips are done by painting an area with Rhinox Hide and then painting Ironbreaker on top. Be sure to leave Rhinox Hide showing around the silver to give the impression of worn paint.

Stratagems

Known as Freki the Swift and Geri the Cunning, the Hearth Wolves of the King, this pair of massive Fenrisian Wolves were said to be companions of the Wolf King from his earliest days as a foundling upon the bleak desolation of Fenris. The Emperor created twenty Space Marine Legions, each utilising residual genetic material derived from one of the Primarchs. Most of the implants were common in type and function to all twenty Legions, but there were also subtle variances in the genetic structure that developed as a result of their different gene-fathers. Thus the warriors of the twenty Space Marine Legions echoed to some degree the particular strengths of the Primarch whose genes were used to develop their own implants. The implants of the Space Wolves were developed from the genetic helix -– later to be known as the Canis Helix –- of Leman Russ. At this time, the Emperor had no idea where the Primarchs were or if they had even survived their ordeal. Only later, during the Great Crusade itself, was the Emperor able to recover the Primarchs, one by one. By then they had grown to adulthood amongst whatever civilisations existed on the worlds on which their incubation pods had landed. Many Primarchs crashed upon uncivilised worlds or grew up amongst deadly and inhospitable environments. Both long followed their bellicose master onto countless battlefields as friends and protective bodyguards and keen watchers, and proved themselves more than capable of ripping apart their hated foes with their inhumanly powerful jaws and claws. The fourth Great Hunt uncovered the Corellian Conspiracy and foiled its efforts to overthrow the Administratum in a bloody coup. Ice Fiend - The ice fiend is a great, bipedal, white-furred carnivorous primate very similar to the creatures known as the yeti in ancient Terran folk tales. They are approximately the height of an Astartes (about 7 feet) and their blood is known to be extremely acidic.

These include massive ice bears, gigantic elk and shaggy mastodons as well as stranger creatures such as the snow trolls, shape-changing dopplegangrels and the great white wyrms that burrow through the glaciers and fjords. The deadliest creatures are the native semi-sentient Fenrisian Wolves themselves, for their wits are as sharp as their teeth and the largest of their number is the equal of any of the great predators that slither and stalk through the icy Fenrisian wastes. Iron Masters - The most technologically advanced tribe on Fenris with iron and steam technology. They live on the isolated Island of the Iron Masters, trading with those who may brave the journey. [13d] Leman Russ, Primarch of the Space Wolves Legion, leads his forces and his two Fenrisian Wolves into battle during the Great Crusade. Should an Aspirant survive this training he will be taken to The Fang to face the Trials of Morkai. Should he pass those, he will then begin the gene-seed implantation process and go through the Blooding that will transform him from a scrawny youth dragged from the ice into a transhuman killing machine of the Adeptus Astartes. Fenris in the light of its star, the Wolf's Eye, at the time of the Great Crusade; its moon Valdrmani, the "Wolf's Moon," is occluded to the left.

Many social animals in Planet Zoo have "alpha" members of their groups, including wolves, but this just means the dominant breeders, be they a pair (in the case of mixed-sex family groups such as canines and beavers), a dominant male (animals that live in harems such as lions, pinnipeds, and most ungulates), or a dominant female (such as hyenas and lemurs). In the last two cases, having too many members of the dominant sex in one enclosure can lead to fighting. Don’t worry if you make any mistakes. Just let it dry and tidy up with Russ Grey. Step 7 – Apply Edge Highlights This period of time is known as a "Great Year" to the people of Fenris. For much of each long local year the world is remote from even this feeble star, and its surface remains incredibly cold. The oceans freeze over as Fenris draws away from its sun, and at its farthest point even the equatorial seas are covered with ice. Axe of Helwinter - Russ' favoured axe, though less strange and potent than his darkly fabled blade, was no less a weapon of great beauty and lethality. It was a Frost Axe, a prince amongst its kind, its edge made with the kraken-teeth of the mighty beast which gave the axe its name; a legendary menace slain by Russ himself before the coming of the Emperor to Fenris. Its murderous edge was further amplified by a disruption field generator which was a masterwork in its own right, so that a well-placed blow could split the armour plate of a battle tank. This means you just want to run the shade into the grooves and edges of the armour and not all over the model. If you make a mistake, simply let it dry and tidy up with some Russ Grey.

Siege of the Fenris System (999.M41) - As the entire Fenris System is assailed by the forces of Chaos, Fenris itself is bombarded by a coalition of Space Marines led by the Dark Angels, the Space Wolves' traditional rivals. Ultimately much of the world is subjected to a massive invasion by the Heretic Astartes of the Thousand Sons and daemonic invasion led by Magnus the Red himself before the Space Wolves under Logan Grimnar triumph. Much of Fenris' tribal population is liquidated by the Ordo Malleus much as happened after the First War for Armageddon in the aftermath of their witnessing the existence of the Daemon Primarch Magnus. Towards the end of the Fenrisian Great Year, as the planet sweeps close to its sun once more, the Wolf's Eye swells in the sky and the brief spring warms the surface. During this period, the ice retreats to the world's poles and the gargantuan dwellers of the deep waters emerge to enjoy the bounty of sun-spawned kryll (a type of plankton), bladefish and other short-lived aquatic fauna.

Fenrisians have a tribal and highly superstitious religion. They worship the planet itself as Mother Fenris, routinely giving offerings to the soil and believing it can ward off evil spirits dubbed Maleficarum. They have shamans who take part in ritualistic acts and carve runes to harness the natural energy of Fenris. [8a] Making their living on a chain of glaciers stretching across Fenris' oceans, the glacier nomads live a humble existence ever fraught with danger. Because of this, the glacier tribesmen are known to possess superior senses to any of the other tribes of Fenris. Even once recruited into the Space Wolves, Battle-Brothers drawn from the glacier nomads possess far sharper senses than even the heightened hearing and smell of their comrades. During Terra's isolation from the rest of the galaxy during the Age of Strife at the dawn of the 30th Millennium, the Emperor had striven to create twenty superhuman beings to serve as His generals, proconsuls and administrators in the great wars to reunite the Human-settled galaxy that were to come. These " primarchs," as He called them, were genetically engineered creatures, artificial humanoids with astounding abilities born of a fusion of advanced genetic science and the arcane power of the Immaterium. Each was created differently and with his own unique skills, powers, and in some cases, incredible psychic potential. The primarchs were made to resemble Humankind, but many were mighty in appearance and far larger and stronger than any mortal man. Sea Dragon: Massive creatures that live in the Worldsea, their hides are used by nomads for ships and dwellings. [Needs Citation]

Fenrisian Wolf: Among the most cunning and deadly predators in the galaxy, these wolves are capable of growing from the size of a small horse to that of an APC. The Ice Wyrm Witherwing - One of the most dreaded of the great drakes inhabiting the highest peaks of the Asaheim range, the beast known as Witherwing was finally hunted down and slain after some effort, its talons crushed down and worked into an enamel that would coat the Frost Axe dubbed Wyrmclaw. The ninth Great Hunt led to the destruction of the Genestealer-infested worlds of the Gehenna System.Months of Shame (444.M41) - The dispute between the Inquisition and the Space Wolves after the First War for Armageddon when the Inquisition sterilised Armageddon's population and placed them within labour camps after witnessing an assault by the Daemon Primarch Angron culminated in a short battle in orbit above Fenris between the opposed Imperial forces. As a result, the Fenrisian islanders rarely build structures of any permanence. Most of their dwellings are crude bone huts covered in cured animal hide. Dragonships are crafted from the ribs and bones of Fenrisian sea beasts or occasionally from the sparse woodlands that occasionally grow on the longer-lasting islands. Cured hide is stretched across the skeletal structure of these ships to form a watertight outer skin. Though humble, the islanders' dragonships are light, fast, and easy to build, allowing even the humblest of tribes to field them in their dozens. H.Bomberguy talks about the origins of the alpha/beta wolf theory and why it's no longer considered scientifically accurate in his video response to "The Golden One," a Swedish neo-Nazi bodybuilder who blames all of society's problems on weak "leftist betas" while seeing himself as the epitome of an "alpha male." Gyrfalkon - One of the few avian species capable of surviving on Fenris, they are grey in color and swift in the hunt. The Gyrfalkon, like almost every species on Fenris, is a skilled predator.
