The first thing you’ll notice about the Mastodon is — unsurprisingly — its size. It’s nearly three feet long and 16 inches tall. The strap it comes with, which clips on at the tip and butt of the blaster, is a hint to its heftiness; the Mastodon weighs six pounds, heavy enough to be difficult for kids to hold and tiring for adults to keep held. It’s a lot of plastic is what we’re saying, so the strap is a welcome help. The Mastodon is an extremely fun blaster and its large size certainly makes it intimidating, but all that size adds to the weight. Hasbro has included a shoulder strap to make your life a little easier, but it may be difficult sprinting around the field with this blaster.

The overall design somehow makes you want to get serious about nerfing. It’s very purposeful in the outlook for some reason. The swivel handle is there for carrying the behemoth. An adjustable nylon shoulder strap is also available for optional use. See if you can remove the darts with ease. If they are too tight, replace them with new right-size ones. But for a kid, the straps are fantastic to provide extra support while carrying. But someone taller can simply hold it a bit in front for good aiming.
