About this deal

We already knew each other, so we could have discussed the project, but I wanted the story to benefit from Steve’s unique perspective and that might not have happened if I attempted to influence him. My only request was that he didn’t make any dinosaurs up – they all had to be based on real dinosaurs. Kota dinosaurs make a significant contribution to the history of the break-up of Gondwanaland, especially the relationship of India with other Gondwanaland continents. It is generally believed that the close of the Palaeozoic, all of the earth’s crust was united to form a supercontinent surrounded by the universal ocean. By the close of the Triassic (about 200 million years old) the supercontinent began to drift apart and the Indian Peninsula, getting separated from the rest of the Gondwanaland, began to drift northward as an island.

Marjory Stephenson Biochemist and microbiologist who was one of the first female Fellows of The Royal Society (Mitchams Agricultural Machinery Ltd, Cambridge) Did you do a lot of research before you started writing? How did you decide which dinosaurs to include in the story? It’s actually very difficult to pin down the source of a specific idea, as many of them are amalgamations of several thoughts and ideas generated over a period of months, or even years. This story was certainly a combination of ideas. I do remember one influence being the removal of ‘Dippy’ (the plaster cast Diplodocus) from the entrance hall of the Natural History Museum. I wanted to write a story that might encourage children to visit that museum and Dippy was definitely a catalyst for that process.

Children's Books by Chris Wormell

I love the image of Danny and the Diplodocus. It really sums up Danny’s dilemma. He thinks he has found the right pet for him, but it’s not going to be as simple as that. Dinosaurium features a wide range of dinosaurs from the most-loved Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus Rex to lesser-known species such as Coelophysis and Tsintaosaurus. With stunning artwork from Chris Wormell (known for the cover of H is for Hawk and his picture books including George and the Dragon) and informative text with input from experts in palaeontology, Dinosaurium is the perfect gift for anyone with an interest in this fascinating field. Ha, I’ve actually never thought about it. It would be one of the more docile ones for sure. Perhaps Argentinosaurus. I’d love to see what the biggest dinosaur ever (that we know of) looked like in reality.

I really do need peace and quiet to be productive, it transpires. I’m quite sociable and like to have a bit of hustle and bustle around me, so I assumed that local coffee shops would be the perfect place to write. It turns out that they are more of a distraction than anything else, so I returned to the sanctuary of home, where I realized I do my most effective writing – usually on the sofa. I have tried desks in the past but they just don’t work for me. I’d love to have my own room, or a shed at the bottom of the garden with a comfy armchair and an overflowing bookcase. One day I hope that will happen. Og bedst af alt, handler den om dinosaurer, som til stadighed fascinerer store som små." – Litteratursiden Dinosaurium: Welcome to the Museum, while designated for the age 8 to 12 child, utilizes information and vocabulary that might be beyond the realm of this age group making the books fitting upward to adults. Introduction of vocabulary and scientific information can begin at any age and more is often absorbed than imagined possible. However, the targeted age 8 to 12 students may find some of the text daunting but we should never underestimate the learning ability and the absorption value that a challenging book has for anyone. And no, this is not your toddlers lovely picture book. This is a book that provides insight into the species that roamed the Earth long ago. The Allen Gallery and Curtis Museum are operated by Hampshire Cultural Trust, an independent charity set up in 2014 to promote Hampshire as a county that offers outstanding cultural experiences to both its residents and visitors.
