About this deal

they proceed to hang out quite a lot. the mc is obviously very disgruntled and grossed out by the fact that he’s actually relating to another human being and to his absolute horror, he actually starts to like her, in his own sociopathic way.

Phew, I’m sitting here thinking to myself….how the hell am I going to review this? But that’s kind of what Chandler Morrison does to you. The first time this happened was with 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲.

Powerful Message About Inner Turmoil

This book will stay with readers long after they finish it; a true testament to its power and influence in providing comfort in times of darkness. I feel more than a little deceitful for writing this (factually accurate but intentionally misleading) synopsis. While everything I’ve set out above may take place in ‘Human Shaped Fiends’, that is not what the book is really about and I’m omitting a large and important part of the story to avoid spoilers. Needless to say, when you read this book, expect the unexpected.

In terms of the storyline, it’s set in Las Angeles, 1854 where a gang of men go on a horrific killing spree. They are pursued by the town Sheriff who is in love with a local prostitute. Nothing too unique but still thoroughly entertaining! Anyone who doesn’t hold any religious beliefs about the whereabouts of the bodies of deceased persons should at least be open to the fact that when a person dies, they cease to exist legally. This, in turn opens the door to reflections of the legitimacy of legal crimes involving dead bodies such as desecration, necrophilia or even cannibalism. And it is indeed possible to see these as victimless crimes since there is no legal entity, no pain, no trauma inflicted. Let’s wrap it up with my trademark closing paragraph, complete with social media friendly quotable line. When a local gang embark on a killing spree, murdering indiscriminately and without consequence, the town grows increasingly restless as their crimes go unpunished. A new arrival in town, tasked with bringing the gang to justice, acts as a catalyst for depravity and mayhem that reaches levels only Chandler Morrison can deliver.

Exploration of Human Emotion

I got a recommendation off of Tiktok of a book that the poster could not even finish (along with Woom by Duncan Ralston which was far better in my opinion). "Challenge accepted" I said. The "twist" was horribly predictable and dull, and the last lines of the book made me want to rip my hair out. I had to make up the final ending in my head so as not to go mad with frustration.

The poor guy is pigeonholed and there isn’t a way to break from these literary restraints, self imposed or otherwise. in the beginning of the story, he meets a woman named Helen, who works at the same hospital as him, and who happens to like eating dead babies. YUP, you heard that right. This is not an ordinary boy meets girl romantic story, which makes it my kind of story. I loved the dynamic between the twisted main characters, who just happened to be a nihilistic necrophiliac and a cannibal doctor. Their interaction, the way they struggle to open up, along with their inner dialogues felt both compelling and amusing. I was utterly hypnotized by it. The hospital is quiet at night. Television gives the impression that large medical facilities are always bustling with frantic activity. That’s either a blatant untruth, concocted for the sake of dramatic set pieces, or Preston Druse Charity Hospital is an anomaly to which that particular rule does not apply. I don’t know. I don’t care. All I care about is the fact that thishospital, come nightfall, lowers its voice to a hushed murmur, permeated by the barely noticeable chirps of uncaring vitality monitors, the sparse staff’s whispered conversations, and the occasional steady sighs of a breathing machine. The halls are all but empty, excepting a few nurses’ stations and, sometimes, a skulking doctor frowning down at a clipboard. What do you mean, I ask, my own voice sounding blander than I’d intended, but I’ve never been all that great at expressing myself, either. I don’t even know what I’m supposedto express right now. She’s buttoning her blouse, and all I can think about is how silly it was of her to unbutton it in the first place; the little favor she’d tried to perform didn’t require any nakedness on her part. Showing off, perhaps? Her breasts are decent, but not spectacular, and she didn’t take off her bra, so there wasn’t much to show, anyway. Even if she had, would it have made a difference? Turned me on, so to speak? I doubt it. That had been the point of this whole experiment: to see if anything had changed. But everyone smokes in a Morrison novel, so even on the meta-side it's needed. At one point one of his friends asks him about how he's going to write this horror novel. He tells them it won't be horror, but satire. "I'm contracted to write a Western with lots of blood, a high body count, and some supernatural elements. Nothing says it has to be horror." There lies the genius of this one. He does all of those things he's required to do. The body count is high, the violence is gruesome and yes, there's more than a hint of the supernatural… it's horror… but it's really more of a comedy. A comedy about what we the readers expect from this series, and him as an author, and how one can conform to that without actually doing what is expected. I loved this book. It's a damn good time. Chandler obviously had fun writing HUMAN-SHAPED FIENDS and poking fun at his own brand while at the same time, proving he has the chops to do whatever he wants with his storytelling voice in whatever genre and I hope he does. I'm putting this whole review in spoiler tags, I didn't really think of what could be a spoiler or not while writing it though I think no spoiler I give can spoil your read nor prepare you for what you are about to read. I loved this book, I initially gave four stars but while writing the review I decided to up it. It offers diverse perspectives on the main theme of liberation from societal conventions, allowing readers to explore their own subconscious desires for freedom. Cannibalism and Necrophilia. Can't say i have ever read a book with the both in it. I've read books with cannibalism but I can't remember one with Necrophilia (and i'm fairly certain I 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 remember that). Now I'm a woman of 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲, 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲 kinks but dead people. . . . Well that's where i draw the line. For some reason they don't do it for me. For Sex or Dinner. Go figure. 𝐍𝐨 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐝𝐨. It’s a writer at the top of his game having fun at the audience’s expense and I love him for it! It’s like the AC/DC People rarely attempt to engage me. Maybe it’s because everyone is busy, but it’s probably because of my general demeanor, which in the past and present has been described as unapproachable and creepy. Even the janitor, a pleasant and friendly old war veteran who seems to be well-liked by all, usually avoids me as one would avoid a nest of wasps. One that appears to be vacant but could possibly erupt into a violent swarm of insects at any moment. LOS ANGELES, 1854. Felipe Alvitre and a band of teenage outlaws set out on a brutal, seemingly random killing spree across the San Gabriel Valley, igniting the ire of the Los Angeles citizens. Sheriff James Barton wrestles with a rapidly escalating crime rate and a populace that demands more from their corrupt, do-nothing legal system as the bodies continue to pile up. The crimes of the young Alvitre gang become symbolic of a greater frustration, and the sheriff faces mounting pressure to bring the outlaws to justice. His greatest battle, however, comes from within, and his responsibilities soon play second fiddle to his struggles with addiction and his toxic, unrequited love for a mysterious prostitute. Through raw and honest writing, the author allows readers to witness firsthand the struggles of his protagonists. In this way, Morrison encourages readers to reflect on their own lives as they observe characters dealing with such difficult topics as grief and depression. Through suspenseful writing techniques employed by Chandler Morrison, Dead Inside provides readers with an insightful perspective on internal strife and mental illness that is both analytical yet engaging. Are there any film or television adaptations of Dead Inside?

This must be my cue to say something, because she’s looking at me silently. Um ... do you want ... some water, I ask. I have no intention of getting her any water. And if that means my mind is kinda deviated at this point then by all means. I won't complain about it. Nope. 𝐈 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐋𝐄 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐀 𝐁𝐀𝐃𝐆𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐎𝐍𝐎𝐑.
